Sick little boys...
Sick little boys are the saddest creatures in the whole world. My little boy got up at 2:30 this morning to come in our room and tell me his blankets (he's a tad OCD and does this a lot) were "all messed up"...I sort of mumble yelled at him in my foggy state to go back to bed. He said,"Yes, but my tummy hurts." To which I replied,"Lay on your left side (as if that's a cure all)." He went back to bed and a few minutes later I was widely awake to the dreaded (by parents everywhere) sounds of retching. :( Guilt...guilt...guilt...guilt....

As I was cleaning him, and the 20 foot radius up he put his hand on my arm and said, "I'm sorry Mama, for waking you up."   and kick self over and over for being so unfeeling.

Now he's ensconced on the couch(with bucket at hand) watching SpongeBob..."But I'm afraid to throw up, Mama..." He really is such a good boy.

Please get me through this day. :(

that's just the standard parent response, try A, then B, then C. Dont' feel guilty, we all say those things when we hope it's not the flu.

But he hit the toilet, thankfully.......

I will say that a properly raised child, full of trust and kindness, will always give you that exquisite mix of pride and shame when they forgive you for your shortcomings.....

7. Just kills ya, doesn't it?
My sister and her kids came last month to stay w/us while her DH is in Iraq (she feels safer here than staying in Meth Lab KS). When my brother came to visit last weekend, my 5-yr-old niece was singing - something she hasn't done much of since her Daddy left. He coaxed her to sing some more, which she did. She told him that she hadn't sung for me because I'm too busy.

Y'all will get thru today. This weekend, do something fun together.

32. Mommy guilt--isn't it AWFUL?
I realized within about five minutes after Material Girl was born that guilt was probably gonna be my constant companion as a Mom... My Doc made the observation that parenthood is "not a pass fail thing" and I have to admit that helped a lot when we had problems with latch on and letdown and all the nursing stuff. It hasn't helped as much now that she's almost 8 and can actually push the guilt buttons...

Just as a horrible thing to admit as a parent (and to demonstrate that I suck WAY more than you do as a parent) I HATE dealing pukey sheets more than anything else. Especially in the middle of the night. I was horribly happy when my kid got to the point that she could at least TRY and make it into the bathroom before she vomited. A puddle on the floor is a lot easier to deal with than a bed full of it.

I am always happy when the vomiting stops.

66. Oooooh. What a little sweetie!
I know. I've two of them. I hate it when they get the crud. We can usually see it coming on because they get so still and quiet.

Here's a story for you:

When my oldest was three and my youngest was an infant, my husband had to take a business trip. My boys slept with me while he was gone. My oldest woke up suddenly, spewing pork chops and rice all over the bed and floor.

I took him to the toilet and he threw up some more.

I changed the sheets (thanks goodness for a spare pair) and put towels on the bed and we went back to bed. He threw up two more times that night, so I ran out of sheets. I cannot figure out where it all came from. My kid was a vomit factory. I was up all night doing laundry and cleaning spew and trying to murse my infant and take care of the sick one. Glad I don't have to relive those days.

67. Little girls too!
My 5 year old has had a fever since Monday, up and down. Barfed last night. "Nothing wrong" says the doc, "but take these antibiotics anyway". She's in my bed with the breakfast tray loaded with water, juice boxes and snacks, watching Scooby Doo 2 for the 7th time this week. Most upsetting to her is tha fact that it is "nunchuk" week at Tae Kwon Do, and she has missed all her lessons this week (I'm upset that I had to buy the darn things and she didn't get to use them). Hope the boo feels better soon...
