I'm so happy that the RMV allows on-line renewals now,
it just saved me what probably would have taken me at least 3 hours of driving, standing in line, waiting, standing in another line and driving some more to renew my license (which expires in 2 weeks).

Woohooo for technology :)

1. And the best thing is you get to look ten years younger than
you actually are. The only questionable part of this is you have to rely on people's honesty that their vision has not deteriorated since the last time they got their license renewed.

5. In Mass you only need to have your picture taken once.
Or once after your 21st birthday that is. So, if you have a picture taken since you turned 21 in their computers, you don't need an update, or rather, to clarify, you do need to update every 10 years (you are only allowed to update on-line every other renewal, and a license is good for 10 years).

4. In Kansas you have to retake the written test every time.
But they thoughtfully include both the test and the study booklet in your renewal packet, so you can fill it out ahead of time.

Actually, it's a very good system. Last time I simply filled out the test as I was standing in line, and looked up anything I wasn't sure about. The good part is being reminded of various rules of the road that one starts getting careless about over time.

Personally, I think we should all be required to retake the driving test each time, but then the cost of our license would quadruple at least, and I'm sure I'm practically the only one out there who thinks this way.
