I love balsamic vinegar and toasted sesame oil to start chicken marinates. There are so many wonderful ways to do chicken.

I try to cook "parrot friendly" and that sounds good.

BTW - I live with 3 parrots who always want me to share my food with them.

22. I'm like that in the summer months.
I marinate and grill all summer long.

But the winter months are far different. I fill the cold winter days fussing around with meals that are more involved.

27. Ya have to love the taste and textures of food to be a really good cook.
It seems as if some people have a knack for cooking while others are clueless.

30. Not just that
But for me it's also the very act of being in the kitchen hands on the food, food cooking in the pans. The tastes and smells

Then the result

Im much more or an intuitive cook, my wife on the other hand has to make exact measurements.

I look at recipes as guidelines vs. hard and fast rules

31. My cooking methods are more like yours than the Mrs.
I do a quick check on cooking time per pound and then sit back to enjoy a libation while time passes and my nose tells me if I need to fuss with anything while I'm in for a refill on my drink.

If I'm doing a hand-on supper, I'm done in the kitchen in about 1/2 an hour  then it's time for me to turn the area over to my house-mates for the after dinner clean-up which isn't too bad because I clean as I go.

14. Apple coffee cake
Apple Coffee Cake

1/2 cup butter or margarine, softened
2 cups granulated sugar
4 eggs
2 cups all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
5 cups peeled and chopped apples
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 1/2 tablespoons granulated sugar
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Beat butter at medium speed of electric mixer. Gradually add sugar; beat well. Add eggs, one at a time, beating after each addition.

Combine flour, baking powder and salt; add to creamed mixture. Stir in apple and vanilla extract. Spoon batter into a greased and floured 13 x 9-inch pan.

Combine sugar and ground cinnamon; sprinkle over cake batter. Bake at 350 degrees F for 45 minutes or until a wooden pick inserted in center comes out clean.

32. Bravo for your after midnight culinary creativity but to be honest
this revelation of yours brings back a bad memory...
Once I was in a crowded house before Christmas and was sleeping in a
little bedroom off the kitchen. I was exhausted from travelling. My bro-in-law is a great cook but this night he decided to have an all-night bake-a-thon, to give (what do you call it)--that stollen-like Xmas bread--to ALL of his many colleagues at the lab. I endured hours of successive rounds of pounding, bread kneading, timers going off, general rustling, etc. but the worst thing was that ventilation was non-existent and the heat and pleasant bread-baking fumes reached toxic levels. In a state of delirium, too tired to get up, this feels something like being baked IN the oven yourself. Oh NO, not another batch--please NOOOO! I will never forget Assault by Baking. Ever after I ask for the dates on which baking or after-midnight cooking of any kind will be going on.... :)

My own kitchen after midnight is a scary place. There might be dirty dishes (producing that instant loathing toward the whole category of things that never get caught up). Also you have to be vigilant for those entities that skitter along baseboards. And you might be looking for the Tums or the aspirin if you are in the kitchen after midnight. Sometimes you even encounter insomniacs in there, in which case it's best not to drink their coffee.
