Grew up in backwoods of GA and when we were sick, she would give us cough syrup from this dark medicine bottle that wasn't labeled or anything.

my grandmother, from the Appalachians of Pennsylvania, rubbed whisky on our gums when we were teething, and fed us coffee and milk in our bottles.

We all drank coffee regularly as children. By age 9, I was drinking black coffee with breakfast every day. I loved my Mom-Mom.

about that whisky on the gums. There was a funny crack about that in "Meet the Fockers", except it was with rum.

Also regarding coffee for kids...I think it's more common in other parts of the world. I had some cousins in India and they were drinking coffee at very young ages.
