An apology to Star Wars fans
I just re-watched "The Empire Strikes Back" (THX laserdisc of the original cut, not the molested edition LD or special molested edition DVD)

GREAT STUFF, overall!

Where did eps 1-3 go wrong?

Oops, did I say 3? I haven't seen it yet but when grand Bush-wannabe arrogant idiot Lucas said that Ep 3 would be a "tearjerker" and "Titanic in space", I      .

Why, you ask? Because compatring ANYTHING to "Titanic" would make ANYBODY :puke: :puke: :puke: :puke: :puke: !

1. Sadly....
I'll be going into EP 3 with high hopes.... don't know why after one and two.... I guess after re watching the original trilogy.. and knowing Episode III has a lot it can offer, I just can't bring it to myself to give up on the new triology.. and hope somehow the third movie can be salvage.... gosh... I'm pathetic at times. :)

2. Titanic reference is unfortunate, but otherwise sounds good to me!
Eps 3 needs to be hugely tragic.

11. Don't forget the excessive violence
Hugely tragic with lots of violence!

3. keeping my hopes low
Although I secretly harbor hopes that ep3 will be good, I'm intentionally keeping those hopes submerged. I figure that if I go in with Empire-Strikes-Back level expectations, it will fall way short, but if I go in with ep2 level expectations, it could hardly fail to meet them.

4. i know the ep 3 plot inside and out
having read the novelization and comics already (yes, i'm a huge nerd).

lucas couldn't screw this one up unles he did it on purpose. i have high hopes for #3 and think that, when all is said and done, 3-5 will be regarded as the best of the series, with eps. I, II, and jedi as the weak ones

7. And Jedi being the best of those three!
The Ewoks were dumb, but the whole Skwalker/Vader/Emperor subplot was superlative.

9. Have you read the treatment written in 1986?
I bet it's very close to what actually happens. I think you can find it with a Google search for "Star wars fall of the republic"

I read it years and years ago and when I saw the previews for Ep 3 I was astonished at how much there was that seemed to come from that treatment, which, so far as I know, was never officially sanctioned.

6. Episode 3 is going to kick major ass.
As the above poster said, it's impossible to fuck this up without doing it on purpose. Outside of a few bumps here and there I really had no problem with episodes one and two.

8. What a mess - and you're right Empire rocks!
I rarely wish a movie wasn't made, but I think I'm leaning that way with Eps 1-3.

I do think, though, that it is possible to edit 1-3 (judging from 1-2) into a single, good 135 minute movie.

That will be the challenge of future generations. The Phantom Edits were kinda fun, but they didn't go far enough. TPM really needed to get cut down to 45 minutes at best.

12. He acts like one. His comments toward fans and the original
Edited on Tue Apr-05-05 08:01 PM by HypnoToad
trilogy purists disgusted me. He refuses to sell the original trilogy as they had been originally made, forcing us to buy his precious "special editions" instead. Why? Because Lucas thinks they're more flowing with his prequel flicks because the effects are conformed. (Whatever)

He insulted film purists and Star Wars fans who liked the original cuts.

George Lucas is a mad tyrant, gone wild with power. In his edeavors to "fix" Star Wars, he has ruined what a great many fans thought was untouchable. Please sign this petition to stop the madness of King George. Stop the cgi. Stop the blue screens. Stop directing. Stop ruining Star Wars. By signing you add to this quest for a full apology from George Lucas.

User ratings on the special special edition DVD set; many of which have some merit.

More comments, the first one had some merit and a South Park reference too.

13. To quote Anakin, "I don't like sand...
...it's coarse and rough and irritating and it gets everywhere."

Myself, I'm looking forward to Jar-Jar Binks' love scene with Padme. I hate to be a spoiler, but that's what tips Anakin over to the dark side...

I've heard it's Jar-Jar's amazing tongue that earns this movie a PG-13, but it's Jar-Jar's corpse floating in the freezing water that makes the movie Titanic.
