2. Yes it is.
It's just not as effective.

But then, it makes for fewer misundertandings.

No :sarcasm: ;-)

4. Yes. Because everyone's "sarcasm detector" is set at a different frequency
And likewise for their individual "sarcasm filters".

6. My writing professor calls it "the elbow in the ribs"
when you write a comic scene and you have to explain to the readers that it's suppose to be funny.

7. well, i agree,
a good writer shouldn't have to announce what they are doing, it should just come across the way they intended.

i thought you were talking about here - just the usual little ditties that go on here, which sometimes DO need the emoticons since it is kind of like "conversation", but without tone, and they seem to help the reader.

8. I was talking about here, but you made me think about my prof
There are a lot of times I'm sarcastic, but people take it all serious and stuff. But if I use the :sarcasm:, it will make me feel that I'm doing the "elbow in the ribs" routine.

So I'm not going to use it and just continue pissing people off without meaning to.

9. you do tend to get people all haired out sometimes
and i always wonder why. (well, there are times that you mean to, but that's a different story ;))

i like the emoticons, even though they are a cop out to real writers. speaking of which, i have found that since i have been writing on the computer, i want to use LOL in other writing. it is ticking me off, and i know i need to buckle down and really write again to get my head out of the "easy way out" mode.

what are you writing lately?

10. Lately I haven't had any work coming in because I'm waiting to get
my logo and business cards before I go out seeking more work.

But I've been writing poetry in my creative writing class. I wrote an anti-bush poem, which received an A. And I just finished a funny little poem titled "the media circus".

12. We have three weeks left
I really enjoy the class. I hope the rest of the classes in this program are that much fun. I think I'm going to post my anti-bush poem.
