1. Did we need a new Kojak?
That was my only thought.

I do like Ving though.

2. Wasn't the original Kojak a greek cop?
Why did we need a new Kojak?
Have we truly run out of original scripts?
Is this why we have "Reality TV" 24/7?

4. Hollywood is afraid of originality right now.
I blame Bush, LOL, but the economy is so bad these days that the studios (and TV folks) aren't taking any risks. It's all stars, sequels, remakes, and adaptations of books/plays.

7. yes, and for "Kojak" and his brother (well, his real brother)..
....who played the fat fuzzy-headed detective on the old show, their greek ethnicity often became a plot element.
I'm not sure how they can do that with Ving. I mean he could go up to the old neighborhoods and look for street cred with the black community, but the guy's NAME is greek, f'chrissakes.

3. Ving Rhames is one of my favorite actors,
and Kojak was one of maybe 3 programs I watched regularly during the 70s (the others being Masterpiece Theatre and the news). I had great hopes for this venture.

That said, I was not a happy camper last night, and no, I'm not at all sure we need another Kojak. Somebody please just re-run the original.

5. blow up your TV
Ving is cool, but TV is the sand in our cultural wasteland.
