Someone stole my trash this morning
The possibilities are:

Homeland Security is investigating.

Someone is hungry.

Someone is looking for aluminum cans.

A thief is looking for an identity to steal.

This is the third weird thing to happen at my home in three weeks.

There is no trash pickup on Sunday. We put it out a day early. It was gone an hour later. Fortunately, my wife uses a schredder.

10. Two weeks ago the police came to my house
...on some bogus dog barking claim that I've written on elsewhere. It was a disturbing visit. Woke up my family. I thought the idiot cop was going to break my door down.

Then a few days after that someone, a young man, came to my door again late at night, trying to get me to open the door because he, "needed a ride somewhere." Needless to say, I didn't open the door.

20. And you'd use the gun on the cop?
On the confused young man? On the garbage thief? Two out of three?

Weirdness -- a great reason to purchase future Exhibit No. 15 in your manslaughter trial.

Which town did you say you were from? I want to be sure I don't accidentally walk down your street the day you're feeling "weird."

29. Not that I'm in any position to approve or disapprove . . .
But I do approve of your choice. America can be a dangerous place, not the least of which is TOO DAMN MANY GUNS, and so arming yourself against an intruder makes good sense. A bat ought to to it -- and you can be sure that if a visiting 5-year-old starts playing with it, it won't kill someone three houses over by shooting through all the intervening walls!

I work in the criminal justice system and I post often on how the drug laws are used as a wedge to destroy people's rights.

12. Could that possibly have something to do with it?
If you are vocal about what you believe, could it be that someone with an opposing viewpoint is trying to get some damning evidence on you? (And that would be just like a RW sheepie)

That's my job. I'm being offered a promotion, after being fired from my last one. I don't know if that's so the local jurisdiction can get rid of me or if they really like what I do. I think they like it, kind of...

Operation Rescue steals the trash of abortion providers and clinic workers. They are always trying to get something on them, or find new ways to intimidate them.

8. Probably identity theft.

Shredder = Smart Move

On edit:

Suppose this goes without saying, but y'all should make sure you're using a crosscut shredder---some older ones just make lengthwise cuts. Beddy bad. Shredded stuff tends to end up in a nice semi-organised pile and it isn't that hard to lay it out on a table and read it. It might seem like it's too big a hassle for some thief to go to, but all they need to do is find a clump that looks promising, and the fact that you shredded it is their first big clue. It ain't all that hard.

If you want to get completely paranoid, shred everything, not just important things. Running junk mail through the shredder will salt your personal document confetti with completely useless crap.

14. Good idea
I think you're absolutely right. I realize that the unshredded stuff is probably just as damning as the shredded if someone is looking to cause trouble.

I can't believe the way you have to operate in the CYA mode all the time.

Yesterday I realized someone is probably "juicing" a pharmacy account I have.

23. Scary
When I read the original message my first thought was identity theft, and I was going to make a smart assed comment about Homeland Security collecting aluminum cans. Then I read your other post about the late night police visit and that person wanting a ride and that put things in an ominous light. It sounds like you are being targeted for, or because of, something. DEA and bounty hunters are well known for mistakenly entering the wrong house. Whatever the reason, be careful. That is some scary shit.

26. Very creepy. I also think you are a target of some law enforcement
agency, and you need to be really careful. The latenight cop visit is totally off the wall, and I bet the guy asking for a ride was undercover. Watch your back!!
