Poll question: Favorite Peter Sellers movie?
I've never done a poll before. But right now I'm reading Mr. Strangelove, an excellent biography of Peter Sellers. Thought it may be cool to find out DUers' favorite Sellers movie, and maybe some comments as to why.

1. I
Don't really have one. I think, however, he is the greatest actor I ever saw. Steve Allen correctly said "He was so good one could learn nothing from him: one could just stand back in awed admiration at the depth of his talent."

2. Being There.
Absolutely.. One of the most underrated films of all time, and one that can make me weep everytime I see it.

18. Except that Chauncey Gardner was essentially harmless.
Can't say the same about *.

5. Cool!
That's why I listed the "other" option. A couple of my favorites are "The World Of Henry Orient" and "A Shot In The Dark".

7. I vote "The Party"
My brain says Dr. Strangelove is the better, more influential, more substantial movie.

But my heart loves The Party. Not only is it a great time capsule of the era, but Sellars' portrayal of Hrundi V. Bakshi is one of the gentlest souls to ever grace the screen (as was Chauncey Gardener in Being There). Sellars just had a knack for playing the gentle soul; perhaps because he was one.

I know some Hindustani folks out there might take exception to what they see as a stereotypical portrayal of an East Indian. But being somewhat familiar with Hindi films and culture, I found his portrayal to be very dignified and sensitive. If he was a bit silly at times, it was not because he was Hindi, but because he was, well, Hrundi V. Bakshi. But he was also a kind, intelligent, artistic man. And, hey, he got the girl in the end!

10. Me too
"The Party" - hands-down, even with such tough competition. It's a brilliant performance, a great ensemble, and there's so much going on that you can watch it many times before catching everything.

BTW, the dude in my avatar loved this film and would watch it back-to-back, several times in one night, when he rented movie theaters (his favorite film may have been "Dr Strangelove" though he also loved the "Pink Panther" films).

11. P.S.
Don't know about Peter Sellers being a 'gentle soul,' though - it sounds like he was basically pretty obnoxious and could be really nasty. Still, he was one of the great ones.

12. Another fan
My grandfather had a special love for the Pink Panther films and I have these wonderful memories of sitting on his lap as a kid with a big bowl of popcorn, watching those movies and shaking with mirth. For years, it was a source of merriment between us: he'd grin at me and ask "Do you have a rheum?"

9. Another vote for Dr. Strangelove!
Just playing alternatively one of the most insane and one of the sanest characters in that movie is a great acting job!
