1. I think the most hilarious part of his role on POTC is that when he was
asked who he based his character on he said he picked Keith Richards. Richards, now has a role in the sequel playing Depp's character's father.

6. That is a riot. POTC2 is filming now. POTC3 is in pre-production.
He is also Willy Wonka in "Charlie in the Chocolate Factory" due out this year.

21. PC 2 & 3
I think they're filming a two for one. (or is it a one for two?) Anyway two movies to be released a year apart. Amazing to get such a talented actor for 3 films!

2. Amen to that,
I LOVE LOVE LOVE Johnny Depp and have for almost twenty years now. He's long overdue for some major awards, and I think it won't be long before he'll finally receive such deserved recognition. Secret Window was especially a treat, since he was in almost every scene in the movie.

3. A friend told me it was great but
I thought she was kidding. Then I finally watched it and now I watch it every time it comes on cable. He is one of the best actors out there. Though, I remember 21 Jump Street and am glad to see how he has improved.

Great movie. He was good in secret window, but the ending of that movie just sucked ass.

12. The Nineth Gate was good too
I did like "Secret Window" but I liked the orginial ending better then the one that was on in theatres. If you get the DVD you can send that one. Other than the ending of the one in the theatre the movie was great. :) I always enjoy his movie's.

26. I was actually pretty disappointed by The Ninth Gate
I thought going in "awesome, a horror film starring Johnny Depp, directed by Roman Polanski, this should be amazing!" but it was so boring. I was really disappointed.

5. I love Johnny Depp-
But I have to disagree; I think Robert Deniro is the most versatile actor. Ever.

Cape Fear, Casino, Meet the Parents, Jackie Brown, The Godfather II, etc.

8. DeNiro is really great, but I feel that Depp has taken more chances in the
roles he has taken. And he did it earlier in his career.
I loved him in "Don Juan Demarco", and "Benny and Joon"....geez..I just loved him in everything..The gypsy in "Chocolat"...

17. I like DeNiro immensely, but he has a standard bag of tricks
that he uses in every role he takes on.

Example: repeating a line two (or three) times to show he's serious "Look at me...look at me" or its variation "listen to me...listen to me." Like Nicholson, it's always a variation on the movie persona he's carved out for himself.

Depp, on the other hand, seems able to created a new character each time out. I don't find myself smacked in the face with a "trademark move/delivery" in a Johhny Depp performance. He is really fanatastic that way.

Both are great because they can do comedy and drama. Not many are masters at both.

10. He is absolutely great in POC
He makes the pirate into an incredible role. The Keith Richards stuff really works. No one else could have done as much.

I love the movie, and there are some great lines.

Captain Barbosa: Thank you Jack

Captain Sparrow: You're welcome

Captain Barbosa: Not you. We named the monkey Jack.

BTW - just got back from Disneyworld where we went on the POC ride.

with any other actor. Haven't seen a lot of his other movies, but I can't imagine anyone else being able to carry off that role the way he did.

He was on that "Inside the Actors Studio" show. Sometimes that can be very disillusioning..but it was quite the opposite. He was just as impressive as himself, as he is in his roles.

If you have the opportunity to rent his movies or see them on TV, do so. They are great.

16. My favorite Depp role (at the moment):
J.M. Barrie in Finding Neverland.

He should have had the Oscar. I'm still sniffling. He and Kate played wonderfully off of each other.

the mixture insane self confidence and self delusion of that character was so damned funny and depp played it so naturally.

23. yeap, the same mannerism of staring off in space as dialogue was spoken
in both it appears as an acting tool that employs external vocalization for dramatizing internal thought processes.

a neat trick by depp. a sign of a superior actor.

Even this old grandma thinks so. A side note -- my daughters' high school biology teacher had a bit part in Cry-Baby. Remember the scene where all the hoods are at the dance, and there's one of the guys dancing with the girl with both of his legs around her waist and his head in her bosom? That's Mr. Goudreau. I saw him in a whole new light once I learned that little tidbit. :applause:

31. Johnny Depp is amazing
Every character he plays, he really IS that character. I believe it absolutely. Many, if not most, actors I see as them playing a character, rather than being it. And so many actors just play the same character in every movie they're in - one of the reasons I don't like Julia Roberts as an actress; she's a one trick pony, IMO. Same with Tom Cruise.

Pirates was great and Depp made that movie what it was - it could have been really cheesy otherwise.

He was tanned just the right amount...and his hair was so sunkissed and delicious. That was the first time I went "whoa, he's sexy as hell".

33. He deserved that Oscar nom. Amazing--we've got two more POC up.
He made the film. I wasn't too thrilled to see it originally, but when I saw it--he's just so much fun, just wonderful.

And Keith Richards was in talks to play his dad in the upcoming Pirates...and I am pretty sure they're onboard for a third one.

Now if only they could ditch Keira Knightley.

37. D'oh!
I'll be interested in seeing just what Keira's going to do in the next two films--seems to me there's no story for her beyond either a)"Okay honey, go off and save the world while I sit and be rich", or b)"I'm all adventurous and a pirate too!"

Neither of which sounds interesting. The character has nowhere to go, IMO, and was basically there to give Jack and Will something to do. I think Keira's pretty lackluster as a talent.
