gentlemen: PLEASE RETIRE THE PLEATED PANTS
its time you faced it: pleated pants look like shit. i don't care if you're a natty NBA coach or joe dockers on casual friday.

you look like you're wearing adult diapers backwards. especially when you have a gut pushing the belt buckle southwards.

it is 2005. pleats have been out for about 10 years now.

& no half measures: single pleats suck too. get some flat fronts.

albeit not from my peers who all wore Jeans.

But you could not get second hand Jeans at the thrift stores.

He is an inspiration to all kids - and adults.

2. I only wear plain-front trousers.
Unless I'm wearing a suit. Creased trousers STILL work with a suit.

11. you are correct - suits come with pleats
unless you go sufficiently metrosexual with the designer.

kenneth cole suits - no pleats.

perry ellis - single pleat.

In fact, I have to have my pants custom tailored with extra pleats. ;-)

9. I Do Now, and Have Always...
HATED pleated pants!

Unfortunately, men my size (Rather on the large side) find it VERY hard to find pants that aren't pleated.

That's one reason I buy pants so rarely.

10. I actually prefer pleated pants on a man
flat front pants are less forgiving of certain body types.

14. perhaps mu-mus would be better on that body type
i always remember the homer-is-an-executive episode of the simpsons, where his personal assistant ordered homer to "stop sucking it in", then ordered the tailor "you! hide it!".

i think it was the voice of harvey firestien.

15. If I'm buying the pants, they're going to be pleated
if he wants flat front pants, he must buy his own damned pants. I don't like shopping, so my tactic works rather well.

16. If you can locate 40 inseams in flat, I'll happily depleat Mr. Pcat.
I've looked. They don't exist, as far as I know, and I'm not about to devote good activism and DU trawling time to sewing him pants.

So... the challenge is on. I agree with you, but when you're a 6'4" and 210, you take what you can get.

21. I go shopping with the SO to be sure no pleats sneak in
They make him look fat (and he's not).

A few weeks ago, we were going to a party, and he was looking through his pants and asked "which ones should I wear?", and I said "any that aren't pleated". (notice----> he ASKED ---> I didn't just tell him what to wear)

He put on a pair and asked "how do these look?"

I said "they're pleated"

He said "How should I know that?" I'm not kidding - he's not dumb, but he seriously doesn't think he can tell the difference.

So I had to go through the pants and pull out all the flat-fronted ones for him.

I've been on a "no pleats" kick for a while.

22. pleats only work if you get the expensive tailored ones that don't do
the bulge thing. Basically, they wear like flatfronts, but cost a lot more.

24. I buy 100%
worsted wool, fully lined dress pants with pleats and a 1" cuff. For the most part the pleats lay fine. What I find annoying is when I buy an expensive suit the pleats never seem to lay correctly. They always have that damn bulge which I hate. I sometimes have to buy a waist size that is two sizes too big, alter the waist and crotch, just to get the pleats to lay fine. But if you buy a suit you are stuck with whatever the drop is, usually a 6" inch drop from shoulder to waist. This means that you have to alter the waist and crotch going out but that never works as well. It's hard to find a good pair.

28. I prefer flat front pants also, and discourage my husband
from wearing pleats. He's on the heavier side, and the flat front is more flattering.

...they wear out, I will retire them. I don't buy clothes just to roll with the styles. I like to KEEP my money.
