That's it, I've had it!
I am going to start yelling at people in the 7/11 parking lot to turn their fucking trucks off when they go into the store. I am sure that will get me nowhere, however when people stop coming to this store it will have a sizable impact. I am going to write down their plate numbers, vehicle numbers and name of company and report them to their employers. This shit is driving me crazy, it is 24 hours a day seven days a week. People go into the 7/11 and just keep their engines on while they are in there. If this doesn't work, I'm going to confront the 7/11 owners and the owners of the apartment building. There is a law that you must disclose such things in a lease and they did not. The 7/11 wars have begun!!!

1. Why? Does the noise bother you?
And what kind of trucks? Delivery trucks and semis waste more gas starting up than idling.

2. Every kind imaginable! Mostly commercial diesel trucks.
but some personal vehicles. I don't give a shit if it does cost more, fuck them! This is my life were talking about, not a pack of Twinkies and a Big Gulp! They have made this apartment unlivable. They park illegally on the streets. I tell ya, if this place is unlivable then that lot is going to be unparkable.

4. You could always leave something . . . interesting . . . in the drivers
seat :)

For instance, do you have a dog that could produce a nice ummm. . . seat warmer. . . for the truck? :)

9. So, you didn't take that into consideration when you rented the apartment
Edited on Thu Mar-31-05 03:27 PM by radwriter0555
that was next to one of the most popular convenience stores in the entire world?

Your landlord isn't obligated to tell you that drivers keep their engines running. Disclosure is applicable when one purchases real estate, not when one is renting.

However, you may be able to break your lease, if you ask nicely and plead your case with dignity and moderation.

No one is going to stop the trucks from running their engines unless you ask the store to put up a sign. You can even suggest wording for the sign, and even pay for it. That MIGHT help your case.

Your landlord isn't at fault here. Due diligence and critical thought on your part should have been applied.

13. I've got something huge in my favor
A lot of the trucks have their business phone numbers on the side. Several phone calls from me with plate numbers and vehicle numbers should do the trick. Plus occasionally calling the cops. The landlord is absolutely responsible for disclosing that information and the owner of the store is liable as well for creating a nuisance.

3. Especially Diesels
Diesel engines use very little fuel to remain idling.

5. Increases risk of vehicle theft greatly.

Leaving your engine running is an encouragment to car theives. Police in my area have started ticketing unoccupied running cars for this reason alone. They too are tired of stupid people leaving their cars vulnerable.

In my homes location we've had a rash of car thefts. Turns out EVERY SINGLE ONE was a car left to warm itself in the morning before work.

That's in addition to the pollution created and fuel wasted.:eyes:

6. and how often do you hear about a missing child
who was left in a running car, with the doors unlocked, 'just for a minute'? happens probably three or four times a year in this area.

8. Was there a 7/11 there when you moved in?
I mean, WTF? As far as gas goes, it takes as much gas to start a car as to idle for 6 minutes. For diesel, much longer.

As far as the noise, caveat emptor. Even if the store was empty when you moved in, you knew the commercial space was there.

You don't have a right to never be offended or inconvenienced in our society. Sorry.

11. What? Do you own stock in Southland Corporation or something?
And as far as noise, there ARE ordinances concerning noise in a lot of cities. And I don't give a shit how much it costs them, it's loud and it is creating pollution. Plus this place attracts every large work vehicle in the county, it is ongoing every minute of everyday. It does abate a little in the wee hours of the morning, but not always.

17. I had an apartment in Lincoln, Ne
Apparently every bus in town went by there, and often two or three of them were idling in front of my apartment, especially in the morning. Probably I was getting up early anyway.

18. No I don't own stock in any company except my own
And I don't believe the trucks are violating any laws by shopping at a 7-11. I see you didn't answer my question of whether it was there when you moved in.

Try going to the police or the city council and see how far it gets you.
Or do what some of the other posters have said and steal and/or vandalize a truck. See what that gets you - most likely a hospital visit.

I just don't have much patience for someone who moves next to a commercial property and then gets upset after the fact and complains when the property is being used the way it always has - in a completely legal fashion.

Sometimes, we make mistakes. It is not someone else's job to fix them. I unknowingly moved 1/4 mile from the end of a runway to Boston's Logan Airport. I can tell you about noise.

19. I have already called the cops once.
This one guy was parking there at 5a.m. and leaving his truck running for one and a half hours. I confronted the guy in the 7/11 and he basically ignored me. I called the cops, cops came and talked to him. Next day he came back to the 7/11 only this time he didn't leave his truck running. Turns out he works for the county(cop told me this) and if he ever parks there again, the county will be getting a phone call from me and hopefully he will be out of a job.

12. Just hop in to a coupla the trucks
and park them around the other side of the block.

Or if you can't do that, get into a position where you can open the door without anyone seeing you, take the keys out and drop them down the storm drain!

16. I had a situation at work where diesels at the docks would idle...
...and the frickin' air intake for the whole building was right above them. That smelled good in a sealed building. I bitched enough that they finally put up a sign telling them to turn off their engines. Geez, it was headache city for awhile. Good luck.
