Need LCD monitor advice
I'm getting a tax refund! WooHooo!

I want to buy one of those nice skinny monitors but I'm not sure about the technical specs like response rate and contrast. Is it worth the extra $100 to get the TV tuner? I want a 17" with integrated speakers, other than that, I don't know what to look for. Are Sonys worth the extra money? They sure look nice on the display shelf.

And, what do I do with the old clunker when I get the new skinny monitor? What is the proper way to dispose of them?

Thanks!

1. It's always good to have a spare!
I think you have to get rid of it through a proper agency. If it works, give it to Goodwill.

How's life treating you? :loveya:

3. Life is good -- I have a puppy!
He has changed my life so much. He's a happy little Stinker, not like my indifferent cats.

How about you? Photoshopping much? Teaching?

My kids are all afflicted with spring fever and it's getting tough. We made "gold" pennies yesterday -- today we're going to blow up Peeps in a bell jar.

5. The best science is blowing stuff up.
I'm teaching some VBA and FrameMaker lately. Getting to travel.

BTW, I always liked the Samsung LCDs. I think that getting a screen with built in speakers guarantees mediocre sound.

2. Honestly, when dealing with LCD's, Sony is no better than any other
make. One of the nicest I've seen is a Samsung (but had no speakers) and it was only $339 for the 17".

Browse www.newegg.com and you'll find a great deal, almost guranteed.

As to the old monitor, you can't just throw them out. I'm not sure who you would contact in your area for disposal.

4. I have an HP LCD at home and twin Samsungs at work
No problems or complaints with either one (neither has integrated speakers). I don't know how the Samsungs are on response rate with gaming, but the HP is great.

Not much help, I know.

6. Dells have very nice LCD monitors.
Sony would not be the best for the money. CRT monitors (what you've got) can be taken to your local waste management place. Look for something with a response time of 16ms or less.
