I am a genius! I automated thread hiding!

I am so sick of the Schiavo clutter in GD and GDP that I wrote myself a Perl script to automate hiding threads. You tell it which forums and what word(s) to look for:

% perl du_hidebot.pl --forum=gd,gdp --hide=schiavo --username=(username) --password=(password)

...and it does the rest. I just ran the script and hid 35 threads in GD and GDP. How refreshing!

The tool isn't quite ready for prime time yet. It runs on the Unix command line and requires quite a few Perl modules installed (WWW::Mechanize and a number of others that it depends on.) It needs some solid testing, too.

However, it can be readily adapted to the web. When I get myself a web hosting account I'll set up a thread-nuking page.

15. I did it all by hand...

all I had left were a bunch of threads bitching about Ralph Nader. I thought I had cleared all the way back to 2001 - I was sadly mistaken. :-)
