Eccleston quits Doctor Who role

Actor Christopher Eccleston has quit as Doctor Who after just one episode of the new series has been screened, the BBC has confirmed.

Eccleston, whose first appearance as the ninth Time Lord attracted around 10 million viewers, feared being typecast.

Talks are taking place to replace him with Casanova star David Tennant.

A second series of the new Doctor Who, which will again be written by Russell T Davies and produced by BBC Wales, has already been commissioned.

If this story had gone out tomorrow, I would have believed it to be an April Fools skit. We'll have another Doctor to get used to next year.

1. I guess it can happen
HE could be typecast or it could give him the the publicity he would never earn in a million years doing something else.

2. My favorite Doc's
were Jon Pertwee & Tom Baker. I think the last time I even watched Dr. Who, he was played by Sylvester McCoy.

3. The last Doctor I really liked was Tom Baker
None of the others have measured up. And Colin Baker lost me.
