Oh, this just is not right. I admit that I play the Sims2 (okay, laugh all you want to) but I love taking a break from writing news that makes my brain burst on a daily basis.
I have one tiny account at a well known content site and I say tiny because it is like 2 bucks a month for a great deal of content to download.
The site is very well known, in the community, for the amount of content it has and the amount of artists and players that visit either to upload or download.
It is, in terms of traffic, on par with DU, just to give you an idea.
I had a question, so I went to the chat area, my first time ever chatting with, well, Sim related people. I had questions and people were polite and answered them (I really could not figure out how to get the Sims to go into the fake basement structure, okay, I know, stupid).
Anyway, at some point I used the word "hell" in my question and boy oh boy did I get a talking to. It seems that the word "hell" is extremely profane and should not be used when discussing Sim-matters. I know you are thinking that kids play too, so that could be the reason. That argument does not fly and I will explain why:
1). Kids are in bed at this time of night and even if not... 2). The game itself allows adult Sims to have sex and "make babies" 3). The game allows teens to "make out" that is incredibly realistic 4). The game itself allows Sims to get drunk, and smoke bongs.
Just some examples...
aside from that, the term hell is not remotely as profane as half of the language on television, music, etc. To make things even more interesting, some of the content on the site for download is, let me say a bit too sexy for the kids argument.
So I inquired on what grounds a word like hell could be considered profane and I was told that no reason was required, that is, no reason was required for explanation.
So my fellow DUrs, it seems that even in the simulated world there is hypocrisy and faux morality.
