getting beat down in Diplomacy
Edited on Wed Mar-30-05 11:45 PM by Mass_Liberal
Its only spring of 1902 and I get the sinking suspicion that I will barely be able to survive the year. Stupid France! Nrrrg!

Anyone here play?

1. Not in quite a while.
When I did, we never seemed to play it to the point that anything vital had happened yet. Typically, I and a cohort were about to launch the full measure of our treachery when the game would end. (People decided to play something else, we ordered pizza, etc...)

I can't really even remember any contries getting knocked out. Ain't that odd?

3. It's been a LONG time.
Don't play Italy. If you must play Italy, plan on being part of a coalition or losing.

Russia isn't all that powerful.

Germany can win if they can get ONE ally.

Don't backstab someone just to do something. Always backstab to help you win.

Don't tell a third party you plan to backstab someone unless he's your ally.

6. I recall Austria being tough too.
You needed a trustable ally at your back.

And in Diplomacy, trusted = wont back stab you before you can back stab them first.

7. hahah
so true. I actually like both Italy and Austria, it seems like it takes a lot of diploming but if you are a good enough negotiator to keep everyone off of your back, both Austria and Italy can be very powerful.

10. I disagree
If Russia isn't brought down by a number of coalitions she will mop the map. Owning a corner of the map as Russia gives her a strong position. If she either buys off Turkey (strong alliance) or screws Turkey over (deception) she's in a good position to roll over her neighbors.

4. Are you playing over e-mail?
I've never played live, but over e-mail it gives you plenty of time to think. Which country are you?

Check out this place for lots of good advice on strategies for different countries and scenarios: http://www.diplom.org/Online/

9. England is a powerful force
I would screw France and seize the Channel. Why not make a sound alliance with Germany?
