This hotel sucks. (Maddy McCall here--begging for pity.)
Best Western, in East Texas. I just have to gripe. The AC does NOT COOL--and it's in the eighties here, and humid. And I'm HOT.

And there are four hillbilly swamp-hicks staying in the room next to mine, really sleazy trashy vulture-looking guys, who are drinking beer and laughing and stuff, right outside my door. I mean--RIGHT OUTSIDE MY FUCKING DOOR!

And did I mention that I'm fucking sweating because the fucking AC does not work?

And the hillbillies were visited at about 6 this evening by what appeared to be a lady of the night. She "partied" with them for an hour or so, and then left.

And there was NOWHERE to park, and the FUCKING AC doesn't work.

I called the front desk, and asked to be switched to another room, but this fucking hell-hole is booked up-----from the looks of it, with methfreaks and prostitutes. And this is the ONLY hotel in town.

So, can I, Maddy McCall, get some pity from my DU friends?

a new name, but I couldn't think of what it was. BTW - awesome pic of the kid praying earlier today!

I do feel sorry for you!

I'll post under my old name when I return home this weekend.

My grandmother passed away day before yesterday, so I'm on the road until Friday.

nothing like going through an emotional ordeal - and then having everything that can be most annoying happens. Hope that things get better - and quickly.

like me, you rarely suffer fools lightly... just sometimes it is even more like fingernails across the chalkboard than the rest of the time. Grrr. I share you annoyance.

Am with you in spirit - hope that some peace is found soon.

26. Thanks, Salin.
I'll have peace tomorrow, after the funeral and the six hour drive home--when I plant my butt on my own couch and enjoy my own AC and TV....and I'm unplugging the phone tomorrow.

Thanks for being such a wonderful, inspirational DU friend.

30. *blush*
don't know about the inspirational part, but thank you...

Get some sleep - if possible in the conditions - got some emotional work tomorrow before a long drive. I used to be able to do 10 hours without much sweat... (several times a year after college) - now - much more than four hours and I am wiped out on the other end of the drive.

Hope that things are moving forward on the research and writing front. Then again - it does usually seem to be fits and starts. Just celebrated earlier this year with a friend who seemed to be on the long track (was at the dissertation stage for several years with very little movement) who suddnely got it in gear and got the whole big D and degree done in less than eight months. Find your pace, dear friend, and just get there. All this other stuff, you know, life, obnoxious loud folks next door in a hot room, its all temporary.

33. I'm stuck in that hole right now, myself.
For the four years of my undergrad, and the two years of my masters, and then my PhD up until my comps in December, I delayed tending to other important facets of my life, just so I could maintain my grades and keep my scholarships and fellowships....but since Christmas, I have been bogged down in taking care of problems that I should have taken care of years ago.

And I'm almost afraid to begin the difficult dissertation work, because I know I'll have to go back into my shell to get it done.

I guess the people I've most neglected are the folks in my family...so, now that I've spent several quality months with my parents and my grandmother, I'm ready to get back in gear.

But I HAD to take a break after the stress of the comps. I've felt guilty about taking the break, but I knew that, if I didn't, I'd burn out.

Anyway, again, thanks for being a great DU pal. :loveya:

20. Thanks.
She was 92 and had lived a very full life. At the end, she was on a respirator. She died only moments after the respirator was pulled. :(

I'm sad because she was the ideal grandmother. But I am happy that she won't suffer in her poor body any more.

And, by the way, she was one hell of a double-six domino player...kicked my ass every time we played. :7

I have wonderful memories. :)

Remember I had my appendix removed if you recall and I missed a whole week of school. I wanted to stay home today but I had an important test in chemistry and I cant afford to fall anymore behind there. I also missed a few days with a flu bug so its not great but I hear theres something that could enable us a day off tommorow :). Not dizzy at all, but my ears are in such pain.

If you have any reason to believe they might be making meth next door or down the hall, you may want to check out and head to the next closest town with rooms.... Not to scare you, but I know someone who had a very close call in a now destroyed apartment complex.

take care.

40. I don't think that's correct...
...judging from the description they sound more like white trash than rednecks.

The best way to distinguish between white trash & rednecks? The tattoos on the white trash are spelled wrong.

42. Sorry. If I gave offense to rednecks, I apologize
You are indeed corect. "White trash" was the anser I was looking for, even if the term is occasionally a bit too un-PC for DU.

For the record, I have not only been chastised for my unwarranted use of the label "hillbilly," but I come from a long, distinguished line of rednecks.

I assure you that all of my Aryan Nations tatoos, as well as those devoted to past lovers, are spelled (relatively) correctly. No pun on "relatively" intended.
