Question re: adopting foreign babies and religion
With all the adopting of Asian children, I've been considering the idea of religion and the adopted baby.

Though I am a Christian, and if I had kids I would raise them Christian, I think that if I were to adopt a Chinese or Korean or etc. baby, I would feel very weird about baptising them, and very weird about raising them as Christians without also letting them know about Buddhism, the most likely practiced religion of their parents. Of course, they would go to church with me and stuff, since they're my kids, but baptising the adopted Asian baby - that idea is really bothersome to me. And I'm not so sure why.

And let me also add that baptising children in general is bothersome to me. I'm not against it, but I would not have my own biological children baptised. I would wait until they were teenagers and then let them decide, and would also make sure that they have a decent knowledge of other religious possibilities and let them choose to go wherever they find meaning.

But I'm kind of surprised at how much the idea of baptising the adopted Asian baby is bothering to me. I wouldn't feel that way about a European baby adoption. I *would* feel that way about an adopted Jewish baby. I'd be very tempted to raise that one as a Jew.

What do you all think?

Am I insane?
