1. The RW fundies all got up in arms about them
and there were numerous court hearings about all three.

7. Gay marriage

I should know, my wife and I being one of the nearly 4000 couples who got married in SF last year.

We had to walk through picket lines of protestors just to get to City Hall. And you know what? Later, we found the buses that had brought them in, parked not far away.

They came all the way from Los Angeles. Just to try to tell me that Jesus could make me love a man, instead of the woman holding my hand.

We showed 'em though. After we wed, we kissed in full view of them, outside on the steps.

A shame it didn't stick... (that is to say, the weddings were invalidated; we remain very much married in our hearts) Oh well.

6. The right wing likes to draw media attention to polarizing subjects.
Especially subjects they feel puts them on the higher moral ground. They like to be seen as the party of higher morals, so every time a case comes up like this (a case where there's a lot of gray area to those who stop and think about it, but seems black and white to moral absolutists), they make a big deal out of it.

Capisce?
