Pet Peeves
Edited on Fri Mar-25-05 04:06 AM by pamela
What are your pet peeves? I have two...

1. Gratuitous Vomit in films: Have you ever noticed how many films have a vomit scene in them lately? I hate that. Especially when it seems that it is totally unnecessary for the story or it could easily be portrayed by a wretching sound off-screen without showing the full-frontal vomiting. Yuk.

2. Cellophane wrapped flowers at those little make-shift, dead celebrity memorials: Personally, I don't get what would possess you to go buy flowers for a dead celebrity, but if you do, TAKE OFF THE FUCKING CELLOPHANE! Or at least pull it back so you can see the flowers 'cause otherwise those dead celebrity memorials just look like big piles of cellophane garbage.

1. I hate gratuitous blood worse than vomit, but the vomit should be left
Out, as well. Both are gross and totally unnecessary.
:puke:

As for the flowers, does the cellophane help keep them fresh? I don't think so. I cut this off and place them in a vase. But this has been around longer than you and me. In Russia, this is a traditional greeting or leaving gift. Everybody comes armed with flowers wrapped in cellophane. So, I guess, it's a worldwide tradition.

3. I don't know, maybe it does keep them fresh.
I wouldn't think so but I'm not sure. I don't mind when someone gives me flowers wrapped in cellophane, I just think if you're going to go to the trouble of setting up a memorial, it's a waste if all you can see are piles of cellophane. It's petty and peevish but I guess that's why they call them pet peeves. :)

8. Flowers are tough to keep fresh, anyway.
Take it from somebody who's visited a lot of cemeteries. The only way that keeps flowers fresh are in a vase with plenty of water. That's just what you need to do. It's much tougher to keep a Christmas Tree lighted for your father, but that's another story. I was just trying to verify my bonfides on keeping flowers fresh. Lots of water.

2. which movies show vomit?
I recall seeing people get sick but rarely the vomit itself. And I watch a lot of movies.

4. You know, to be honest...
I usually close my eyes when they start to vomit so I don't always see how much of the actual vomit substance they show. 8 Mile comes to mind as one where they showed the vomit. I just can't even stand seeing people get sick and it seemed about 6 months ago I hit a spell where every movie I watched had a puking scene. I know it's just my weird thing. Heck, the vomit smiley on DU creeps me out a little.

5. Many new movie have stuff of all types not need ed for story
Sex, blood. and vomit seem to be really in style now and usually it all has nothing to do for the story so I watch a lot of old movies. I hate to shop as the stores and mall are just to hot. I never know what to do with my coat yet the shop girls are in short sleeve shirts. They should be in sweaters, and jackets so I can shop cool.Course it is really good for me as I have not been to a mall in years and buy very little.

6. That's a good one.
I get really, really hot in Malls, too. I haven't been in one in ages. I liked your comment that "They should be in sweaters, and jackets so I can shop cool." Lol.

7. Several
* My university is NOT Southern Cal. That is not an accepted reference, despite the NCAA's own website calling it that, along with ignorant sportswriters/sportscasters from coast to coast. The USC sports information office led by Tim Tessalone launches a bi-annual effort to squash that reference, but it succeeds for maybe the first quarter of the first football game.

USC. 'SC. Troy. University of Southern California. Southern California. Plenty of correct terms and only one jackass one.

* A reference to a person should be who, not that. DUers violate this one repeatedly. "Name the person that influenced you the most"

* Action movies. They suck, virtually without exception. Something has to blow up in every quadrant of the screen for 2 hours. Perhaps one clever section of dialogue in an entire movie. I realize these movies require simpleton dialogue and plot to be translated for worldwide audiences, but it's gotten to the stage I'm not sure why they hire writers in the first place. Just point the camera, curse, crash and burn.
