Poll question: How do you feel about "happy" endings in movies?
Me, I want the main characters to be happy, and the villains to be punished. If the couple isn't together at the end, I want to hurt someone.

If I wanted to see "reality" or misery and despair, I'd watch the news, or live my life.

The only exception to this is when I know I'm watching a clearly depressing picture going in-- any of Clint Eastwood's recent films, LOL....

My sister is the opposite--she thinks happy endings are copouts.

So....what do y'all think?

1. I like a happy ending if the plot warrants...

...but I'll take a realistic ending over a happy one otherwise, even if the film isn't particularly 'depressing'.

2. Depends on the movie
I don't like things to be conveniently tied up in neat little packages - I prefer more complexity than that, especially if I'm watching a drama which I expect to be a bit more realistic than a fluffy comedy.

I like movies that make me think - to me, that's entertaining. But then I read nothing but large, dry nonfiction historical tomes, too so go figure.

3. Depends on the film plot
I like a nice twist at end now and then too but I enjoy a nice happy ending too.
