Bonds may miss 05 season.
http://www.sportsline.com/mlb/story/8316952

I hope so.

Hank Aaron earned that HR record without the benefit of steroids, during an era where pitching dominated. I would HATE to see a cheating little punk like Bonds take it away from a class-act like "Hammerin Hank".

1. I'm conflicted.
He's a franchise keeper on my fantasy team. But such a jerk in real life.

11. They were close. Aaron had more RBI's, HRs and Hits than Mays.
Mays was more flamboyant than the reserved Aaron, and he played halk his career in NY.
But...if I had to choose one over the other for a dream team, I'd take Mays.

13. Mays would have ended up with 700+ too if
it wasnt for the Korean war, he missed two seasons. Both Aaron and Mays were incredible.

17. Aaron
had a longer career. His numbers had more to do with longevity. Willie was the better fielder(played Center), and is the only player to hit 50 Hrs. more than 10 years aprt. He won the player of the decade(vote on) in the sixties. Aaron was not better in the fifties. He was better in the seventies. Aaron never hit 50 hrs in a season. If you reemeber the all star games of the sixties Willie was the star. If he didn't have to play at Cadlestick he would have hit 800

22. Yes I know but theres no denying that Aaron was grat as well
and I know that Willie was great, hes one of my favorite playesr of all time, its just I think Aaron was good as well. Yes if Mays played anywhere else, I think youre right and if that war didnt happen, he would have been the one who broke the record. I think Wille only went over 50 twice. He was amazing, in the top ten of all time.

23. correct
Aaron was a terrific ballplayer. There were a couple I thought his equal. Frank Robinson and Roberto Clemente. Willie was just the best. What gets to me is that Willie is kind of forgotten and all the praise that now goes to Aaron. I actaully think the greatest of all time is Ruth Willie is second and believe it or not Dimaggio is way up there. What is amazing about Dimaggio is that he only struck out 369 times in his career. Here is a guy who was a great HR hitter and never struck out. He was also an awesome fielder. The 56 game hit streak is the alltime record and will never be broken. I also love Pete Rose

25. I like Ted Williams and Stan Musial as well as DiMaggio
Yeah in the Sporting News book of all time best, Ruth was number 1 and Mays 2, what people dont realize about Ruth is that he was not a one trick Pony and he hit for average too, very well I might add, his lifetime average is higher than Tony Gwynn's by 4 points and Gwynn was amazing.

27. I grew
up in a baseball family and my father had a minor league contract after the war. He entertained the troops playing baseball during the War. We used to go to the clubhouse and I have a ball signed by Stan Musial, Kenny Boyer and Bob Gibson to me and my brother. We were in the cardianl Clubhouse on Stan Musial night in NY. I also have 3 Joe Dimaggio balls from the forties, a Jackie Robinson ball and a Ted Williams ball. These are team balls of the teams from the forties.

28. Neat
My mom's dad has told me that his brother actually had a shot but he hurt his arm or something but I grew up on nothing but baseball, even though it saddens me to see the game in many ways decline.

30. agreed.
I maintain the game peaked in the sixties. It was the first time all 3 dominant racial groups played-whites, blacks and hispanics. These guys grew up when only one sport provided a real living. Because of this Baseball got all the athletes and there were only 20 teams. That is my argument and I'm sticking to it. By the way my dad is from St.Louis and baseball is the game there. I asked him if he played against Yogi Berra and Joe Garagioa and he was a couple of years older. He said they came from "Deigo" hill

I read somewhere that he originally wanted to be a Cardinal not a Yankee. I agree about the 60's, it was a diverse time.

9. You work for Evil Evil people!
"Leaning his head on a crutch and repeatedly saying he was tired, Barry Bonds said he might miss the entire season following his latest knee surgery."

"You wanted me to jump off a bridge, I finally did," Bonds said. "You finally brought me and my family down. ... So now go pick a different person."

snip

The seven-time NL MVP, who returned to spring camp Tuesday following last week's surgery, made his remarks while sitting at a picnic table outside the Giants' clubhouse with his 15-year-old son, Nikolai, at his side.

The media, in part, *MADE* him. And I love the example he is setting for his son, blame race, blame the media, blame everyone, but do not take responsibility for your own behavior.

16. the consensus on romey today..
was that Bonds takes the year off, comes back a lot smaller, and blames it on the fact that he had to change his workout routine due to the injury.

19. I think he's having second thoughts about facing...
hostile baseball fans and the press throughout the U.S. for the rest of his playing career.

I think he'll hang 'em up, but not make it official until this steroid thing cools down...if it ever will.

21. If I didn't know any better it would sound like a 'roid crash
because I would assume that anyone of that stature who might do that sort of thing would have the best medical advice and not have the same thing happen to past ;-) HR record breakers who suddenly came down with minor annoying injuries ("thigh" "Wrist" "Ankle") that didn't really require treatment but would cause them to take a couple of days off here and there.

If I didn't know any better.

31. Boo-hoo! We won't have the Dick Nixon of baseball to kick around anymore.
I think the comparison is appropriate. Both men are extremely arrogant, self-absorbed, paranoid pricks who refuse to take responsibility for their own mistakes.

My fear is that, like Nixon, he will make a comeback after pretending to leave the arena. My hope is that he falls flat on his face.
