I did a sweep on my computer last night using "Ad Aware"
and it found 8 spyware files.

I also use "Spysweeper". Apparently AdAware will catch what SpySweeper misses.

Question: is there anti spyware available that does the job of both these systems?

1. pest patrol is a good program
but you have to pay $40 for it... it's worth it, IMO

3. I don't know about spysweepers
Adaware seems to work pretty good for me ... I'm in the habit of running it 2-3x a week.

For nasty things, you can find a free copy of 'Hijackthis' or 'Trojanhunter'.

Google Tom Coyote ... they've got some excellent freelinks and live techie dudes who can answer your questions.

4. No "one" program is going to get them all.
Best to use a couple and cast a larger net.

6. There's always overlap. You need lots of tools.
Edited on Tue Mar-22-05 03:28 PM by mcscajun
I use the following:

Spybot Search & Destroy
Ad-Aware SE Personal
SpywareBlaster
All of the above are free and can be found at www.download.com

Pest Patrol is also quite good, but it's not free. I use this as well. :)

I also use whatever tools my ISP provides as first line of defense.

It's a big battle; it pays to be well-armed.

7. I do not think so
I use Spyware Guard, Spybot S+D and Adaware. I run them about once a week.

9. I use Adaware, Spybot search and Microsoft Antispyware
in addition to Antivir XP. All of these are free. I find and delete all sorts of nasty stuff with these 4 programs.

10. I use AdAware, Spybot, Norton Antivirus, and AVG
Norton is the only one I've purchased, the others are free editions.

I run all four about once a week, sometimes more for AdAware or Spybot.

I had a nasty spyware infection a while ago, and took the cpu in for cleanup to the repair shop. They had to reinstall Windows, crap!

So far so good ... !

11. For less spyware switch to Firefox
That should take care of most of your problems....

I don't even have to run Ad Aware anymore.

12. I use Aluria Spyware Eliminator
It's very good. It's shareware, so you have to pay for it, but it's only $20-30 and it updates often. So far in my experience it catches everything AdAware and Spybot catches, plus a lot more.

16. It's internet only I believe
http://www.aluriasoftware.com/homeproducts/

However, they do use CDs for distribution, so if you are bothered with credit cards over the internet, they will likely take a check and send it to you.
