Remote Control advise needed: PLEASE HELP!!!
http://www.tacp.toshiba.com/televisions/product.asp?model=mw27fpx

This is the TV that I own (Although I paid a hell of alot less for it). It's a TV/VCR/DVD combo and the remote control is still missing after all this time. I probably wouldn't care except for some reason all my DVD's play with subtitles even if the language is English (irritating as hell).

I can't find a replacement remote on their website and I'll have to probably buy one of those generic remote controls (I think I accidently threw my remote control away). Any have any recommendations? It needs to be a remote that will work work with a Combo TV, which my other TV also is a combo and I had problems in the past with buying a remote (the other TV is only a TV/VCR).

Anyone have any recommedations or suggestions? I'm about ready to just buy a new TV to deal with the issue but realize that's kinda foolish!!

BTW, if anyone has a remote that looks like this:

I'll buy it from you!!

11. I'd almost bid on it for a 2nd Remote...
...but I just bought one from Toshiba for $17 and that included the shipping. This one would be almost $25 once I got the bid and shipping

4. If they have a 800 number
give them a call. I know remotes used to be available because I had to replace a lost one too. Cost's a lot though. Maybe try ebay?

7. We have a Philips Magnavox (no model number)
universal remote that works a Toshiba TV and a crappy DVD player (not a Toshiba) just fine.

I think you can get it at W, W, W, Walmart (hard for me to spit out that name).

8. If you get a universal remote
Make sure it's pre-programmed for Toshiba. Otherwise you have to have the old one to program the "learning" functions on the universal remote.

9. Any generic should work
Toshiba's a big manufacturer, so any decent remote should cover their models. Just make sure the remote works for TVs, VCRs and DVDs.

12. It did - I ordered a replacement one from them
If it was just a TV with Separate VCR and DVD, I'd get a generic - but these combo TVs tend to be a pain. After I moved, I couldn't find the remote for my other Toshiba TV and the generic remote would not work.

thanks hun!!

18. I've been in the same boat
So I understand how frustrating it can be with a universal remote. I'm glad I could help. Isn't that one of the best things about DU?

14. Consider getting a Learning Universal Remote
The Learning variety cost a little more, but I think their versatility could come in handy. As an example, if a frequently used button (like mute, which I use all the time to mute commercials) wears out, you can program one of the other unused buttons to act like that button. Also you might like the ability to remove some button's default functionality because you did not want to risk accidentally pressing that button. Also it should be less likely to become obsolete should you get another remote control device that it is not preprogrammed to know how to operate. (I have had mostly OK experience w/ Zenith such controls ~$15)
