Did you ever forget to go to work?
I am so upset right now. I was supposed to go to my part-time job to cover for someone last night and I just simply forgot.

I normally work only weekends. I left Saturday and we had even talked about it, but it just slipped my mind. This morning I was standing in the kitchen and making a mental list of what was left during the week and it just hit me.

I have never in my life forgotten to go to work and I'm really freaked out about it.

What would you do now if you were me?

2. I've done it
Restaurant work, you know. ;-) I used to agree to cover shifts that I usually didn't work and then forget to go in. I'd usually call as soon as I remembered, just so I didn't cause the other person to get written up for my mistake, or anything like that.

3. Call into your supervisor.
No show, no call, was a zero-tolerance thing at my PT job.

4. No, I've never forgotten to go to work
Though I have shown up for work when I was supposed to be off - a bother but infinitely better in the long run.

I guess if I were you, I'd call my boss immediately and throw myself upon his/her mercy. These things happen - if you've been reliable up to now, they will probably be understanding since it wasn't your regular shift.

5. I forgot to go to a job interview once
It was a HUGE interview for a job I really wanted. It had been on my mind and I had really been obsessing over it, but I got extremely busy that particular morning with class and some other work and I just forgot. I felt like I was going crazy. How can you forget something like that? But I did.

They were nice and rescheduled the interview, but I didn't get the job. Go figure.

Since then, I've also forgotten other things, like a dentist appointment and a conference with my son's teacher. I think it is usually a sign that we're just trying to do too much, and hold too much information in our heads.

I know you feel awful, but you just have to apologize and let it go. Don't keep feeling bad about it. (Easier said than done, I know.)

7. Heh, I did that once

It was for a different position in the company that I worked for at the time. It was scheduled in the morning and then I was supposed to work my regular shift later in the day.

Completely forgot.

I went about my morning routine, all the while thinking, "hmmmm, isn't there something I'm supposed to be doing?" then went to work in the afternoon.

They called me later that afternoon, man I felt like an idiot. They kindly rescheduled the interview, but not surprisingly I didn't get the position. I'm a dumbass sometimes.

6. No, but I have bad dreams about it
Just like the "I forgot to go to class all semester" dreams. The only former job I dream about is my summer line cook job at Applebees. I think that was because it was super high-stress, but fun at the same time.

9. No, but then, I work every day of the week
So if I wasn't at work, it would already seem odd.

I suppose the best thing to do is to call into work and speak to the supervisor, and phone the person whose shift you were to have covered as well.

It seems pretty forgiveable to me. I think if anyone of the crew in my department did something of that nature I'd be inclined to laugh it off as long as the work got done. Unless there's an ongoing pattern.
