Not sure if I like Safari
it can never find info. I try to download, it can't find applications. I'm ready to download IE again, at least I could find something there.

1. Why not firefox?
www.getfirefox.com - It's better than both of those.

3. Why is Firefox better?
I think one of the reasons I don't like Safari at this point is because it is so different then IE. One of the books I was reading today talks about people who were on IE and OS 9, there is a huge difference. Those who were on OS9 really need to unlearn everything and relearn OS, how true. I can't find anything, when I go to do something, it is different, my email is different. A few months from now I am sure I won't complain as I also enjoy this new system. I feel like I'm learning the computer all over again.

Do I need to purchase Foxfire or does it download? I've not seen this advertised on Apple.

7. Download it
It's free, just go download it, you'll love it. It's the best browser there is right now, period. It's slowly gaining on Internet Explorer's dominance, it's solid, it's not going to be as unfamiliar as safari. It's not endorsed on apple's site because they don't make it. Mozilla foundation makes it, it's open source and will be free forever. It's based off the old Netscape Navigator source code if you ever used that browser way back. They worked on the netscape code for years and years, and finally have put out a new browser that kicks major ass. How do you like that one, microsoft!?

8. I love Firefox!
I love tabbed browsing, and how you can use the available extensions to customize it. And it has a great built in pop-up killer.

I also use the compatible email reader "Thunderbird" in order to read and manage my email. It was easy to set up.

11. Another vote for Firefox
I reccomend the "Ad-block" extension as well. Sometimes the pop-up blocker will miss something or you will want to remove annoying ads that don't open in a window. Just do a search on the Mozilla (Firefox) homepage for the link. :D

4. If theres a problem with downloading, check your preferences
There should be a section called "general" where you pick what folder you automatically download to. It probably has a different default setting than internet explorer, but you can fix it.

I just got safari a few months ago, and I had a few bumps in my transition too. They all ended up being changes to things that I was used to that weren't automatically set up in Safari, and I ended up just having to fiddle with my preferences a little and everything was like I like it.

6. The problem I am having is
downloading Real Player and Media Player. I can listen to ITunes, but forget about listening to anyone else. When I try to download, there is a flash on the screen that I don't have any applications. So, I kick on applications, nothing happens. I know it's there, just can't find it.

I am a little afraid to play with preferences, everytime I do this I screw up my computer. I am ready to pay someone come to my house and help me out. I am not computer savvy like most at DU.

12. I love Safari, and had no trouble downloading RealPlayer.
OS X is so great. And cheaper than ever, with OS 9 still included for your former software. Everything is SO EASY compared to the old days. You'll get over the hump, and it'll be worth it.

14. But when I try to download
Real Player or Media.... why am I told I don't have applications?

It took me all day Sunday to work with Apple and Cox to get my email going. Thank goodness the person I was working with at Cox would not give up. She was determined I would get me email, she succeeded.

I think my new computer took one look at me at laughed.

9. So donheld
how are you being a smart ass? Just remember, I did not grow up on computers, it came late for me and I never really received classes. What I know I self taught and damn proud of what I learned on my own.

I did take a class with very young people, ended up dropping the class as the instructor was on the pace of those who had quite a bit of knowledge on the computer. Guess I need to take a class with seniors.

13. I know computers hate me
yet, I love them. Honest to God, I can screw up the easiest things on the computer. Everyone seems to have an easy time, not me, something always happens.
