Some of you are going to die.
Martyrs of course to the freedom that I shall provide.

2. I'll give you the names of those you must kill.
All must die with their children.
Carry their heads to the palace of old,
Hang them high, let the blood flow.
Now, in this ugly world
break all the chains around us,
Now, the crusade has begun
give us a land fit for heroes.

3. NOW!
Stand up and fight, for you know we are right
We must strike at the lies
That have spread like disease through our minds.

Soon we'll have power, every soldier will rest
And we'll spread out our kindness
To all who our love now deserve.

Some of you are going to die
Martyrs of course to the freedom that I shall provide!

6. It's one of my *favorite* Genesis songs.
The Knife would be #1, if Looking for Someone wasn't so damn beautiful.

Stagnation's way up there, too. Trespass is my favorite of all their releases, so... got it. :D

The Knife... SOOOOOOOO good!

8. "Knife" is my #2, but "Watcher of the Skies" is #1
I would say that "Supper's Ready" is #1, but that one almost deserves its own album, IMHO.

Glad to see some other Old Skool Genesis fans around these parts! :hi:

10. I'm gorging on Genesis right now, from the site linked in my previous post
Why oh why don't they have "The Fountain of Salmacis"?

7. I heard the old man tell his tale
Tinker alone within a storm
And losing hope he clears the leaves beneath a tree
Seven stones lay on the ground
Within the seventh house a friend was found
And the changes of no consequence will pick up the reins from nowhere

Sailors in peril on the sea
Amongst the waves the rocks loom nearer not yet seen
They see a gull flying by
The captain turns the boat and he asks not why
And the changes of no consequence will pick up the reins from nowhere
Nowhere...

Despair that tires the world brings the old man laughter
The laughter of the world only grieves him
Believe him
The old man's guide is chance

Farmer who knows not when to sow
Consults the old man clutching money in his hand
With a shrug the old man smiled
Took the money, left the farmer wild
And the changes of no consequence will pick up the reins from nowhere
Nowhere...

Despair that tires the world brings the old man laughter
The laughter of the world only grieves him
Believe him
The old man's guide is chance

9. Watcher of the Skies
Watcher of the skies watcher of all
His is a world alone no world is his own,
He whom life can no longer surprise,
Raising his eyes beholds a planet unknown.

Creatures shaped this planet's soil,
Now their reign has come to an end,
Has life again destroyed life,
Do they play elsewhere, do they know
More than their childhood games?
Maybe the lizard's shed it's tail,
This is the end of mans long union with earth.

Judge not this race by empty remains
Do you judge God by his creatures when they are dead?
For now, the lizards shed its tail
This is the end of mans long union with earth.

From life alone to life as one,
Think not now your journey's done
For though your ship be sturdy, no
Mercy has the sea,
Will you survive on the ocean of being?
Come ancient children hear what I say
This is my parting council for you on your way.

Sadly now your thoughts turn to the stars
Where we have gone you know you never can go.
Watcher of the skies watcher of all
This is your fate alone, this fate is your own.

17. That is so completely amazing
I think about that whole album-- especially "Supper's Ready"-- and to imagine it was done by guys who were all in their early 20s..... incredible.

Tony Stratton-Smith (RIP) knew a good thing when he heard it!

18. I've actually got that one on vinyl and CD
That label's very familiar!

Actually, I first got into the early Genesis stuff in the early-mid 80s, so I bought all of it on vinyl first. I've replaced it with CDs now, but I still like the look and sound of vinyl.

If I may say so, my 5/2/75 FAde001 live version of The Knife is one of the best. My favorite Lamb show ever. They were on fire that night. One of the few times they played The Knife on that tour.
