2. how sweet it will be!
Pettitte's a stud and he will not be denied tonight. i predict that Boston will pitch Burkett for about and inning and stick pedro in once he starts getting shelled. doesn't matter- tonight will be a great night, and i'm glad it's going to happen in the Bronx.

3. Dude, you're a terrible dancer.
Don't muss up the glitz with your out-of-sync gyrations.

I know. I know. I shouldn't bring up the heartbreak you felt after missing the cut for the Yankee grounds crew dancers. That was rough. But you must have another skill, a calling of some kind. You've just got to find it within you.

6. Best team money can buy
Yankees are the Republicans of baseball. They have the biggest payroll, then crow about it and congratulate themselves for being able to use that wealth to pulverize the have-nots. The playing field needs leveled.....both in society....and in baseball.

8. Hey Cheviot
Hate to rain on your working man's progressive slam on the Yanks but:

A. Bostons payroll is either the second or third highest in baseball
B. Boston was the LAST team to integrate leading many to believe that they suffer not only from the curse of the Bambino but are getting their just deserts as a racist organization.

That aside: GO CLARK

20. all those great Black Yankee Players in the 20's 30's and 40's
Don't kid yourself. The Yankees were racist too. The Red Sox took longer and paid the price. A long time ago.

Your declaration that the Red Sox ARE a Racist Organization is ridiculous sidwill.

9. The Yankee Payroll Is High Because They Reward
their own players for the performance. That's how the system is supposed to work. Labor gets rewarded. Do you want a salary cap system where the owners get to keep ALL of the revenue that the sport generates?

When I buy a ticket for a Yankees game, my money is going to the players who labor on the field. It's not going into the pockets of the KC Royals owner.

11. Doesn't hurt that the NYC population base is 20 million vs what for
places like Pittsburgh or KC? 2 million? Your notion that a team can reward player performances is utterly preposterous. When small market tams have a player who does well, rich teams like the Yankees buy them off. Look at Giambi, Mussina, Bonds, and others who have abandoned the small market teams to play for the rich teams.

13. *sigh*
If Oakland had given Giambi a no-trade clause, he would've stayed there FOR LESS MONEY. Billy Beane screwed up. Don't blame George.

As for Mussina, since when is Baltimore a "small market"?

By the way, the Red Sox offered Mussina more money. He chose New York. Go figure.

17. If A Market Is Too Small To Support A Major League Franchise
then that team should move or be contracted. Pittsburgh is a great town, but it population is not growing. That city cannot support professional sports teams in either the NHL or MLB. Even in the hard cap league of the NFL, they cannot keep players like Chad Brown.

Besides, MLB has a luxury tax system which gives millions of dollars to teams like the Royals and the Pirates for doing absolutely nothing. So, yes, the Yankees spend a lot of money, but they're being punished for spending that much money. What more do you want?

Finally, the Yankees have won 26 world championships, but only 6 of them have happened during the free agency era. How do you explain the other 20, when players were virtual slaves to their teams.

7. I root for the Yankees when the Mets are not in the Series
The Yankees are my AL team of preference.

I have been supporting the Cubs during the playoffs out of solidarity with the long-suffering Cubs, but now that reality is beginning to set in, let the Yankees send the Red Sox back to Boston and may they pummel the Marlins into canned tuna during the World Series.

12. I simply do not understand these threads
I didn't understand the stupid Boston Triumphant threads yesterday, and I don't understand the Yankees Triumphant threads today.

THERE IS A LOT OF BASEBALL YET TO PLAY.

Mantra: It ain't over 'til it's over.

Thanks God for Yogi Berra, the king of tautology.

16. Sorry Vegetarians, but Boston...
Sox=

Heaven FORBID we're confident.

And Chev, which is worse? Spending a large chunk $150 million on players you brought up through YOUR farm system, or spending $120 million, $50 million of it on 3 players ALONE, only one of whom you brought up, and he's the only player of significance you haven't "bought" or traded for? Hmm?

Do yourself a favor and look at where George Steinbrenner is on the list of richest owners...you might be suprised.

19. That's something of a red herring..
Steinbrenner may not be the wealthiest owner, but that makes little difference in pro sports most of the time. Steinbrenner has access to an enormous cash flow generated by local TV revenue, so when he needs to dole out for his payroll, he merely dips his hand into the stream and pulls out the money.
