Black Sabbath appreciation post....
Who is with me?
Favorite album?
Can you appreciate any of their singers other than Ozzy?

For my money Volume 4 is the most rifftastic of their records but it's hard to go wrong with any of the first 4 albums. I think Paranoid is more than a bit overrated though.

I love the two albums with Ronnie James Dio but it's almost like 2 completely different bands. I think Heaven and Hell and Mob Rules stand up quality wise to the first 4 albums, and surpass in quality stuff like Never Say Die and and other later Ozzy albums.

The album they did with Ian Gilian of Deep Purple (Born Again) is not great but is definitely misunderstood.

1. Master of Reality was cool
And I also liked Sold our Soul for Rock and Roll, because I loved the song Changes and also Going Insane (not sure if that was reallly the name of the song??)

When I worked at Yamaha Music in the late 80s as an Artist Relations person, we had a relationship with Ronnie James Dio. He was a very nice guy, and very approachable. We didn't have to deal with agents, and all the other people that surround famous musicians. He also had quite the solo career aside from his stint with Black Sabbath.

Didn't realize that Black Sabbath collaborated with Deep Purple. Its funny you pointed that out, because during the time period when I used to listen to them in the early 70's, I used to kind of cross-pollinate them in my mind :)

4. Only one album with Ian Gillian...
It was called Born Again. It came out in the early 80's.

I loved Dio's solo career as well. Holy Diver and Last In Line are positively classic.

I'm 34 and my father took me to a Dio concert in the early 80's when i was in middle school and he is 56 and still talks about that concert fondly.

6. I've got 'em all.....s'hard to pick one favorite.....
....but the one's I listen to most are...Master of Reality... Technical Ecstacy.....Sabbath Bloody Sabbath*got this on vinyl too*...Black Sabbath....and Never Say Die!!

You Won't Change Me....off Technical Ecstasy 1976

I'm just a man and am what I am...
Nobody will ever change my ways...
I don't need money and I don't need no lies...
I only need to live for today...
But I'd like to talk thing over with you..
I want to hear the things you say...today...
Although you won't change me anyway...no no way....

I wish you'd come and see me...I'd like to hold you...
I want to set my mind all free...
You understand me woman...you give me time...
But I don't need no sympathy...
Sill I wonder...what it's like to be loved...
Instead of hiding in myself...
Nobody will change me anyway...no no way...

Nobody's gonna change my world...
That's something too unreal...
Nobody will change the way I feel...

So listen to me now...hear what I say...
Please give me time and maybe love...
If there's a God up there...well I hope he helps me...
I need him now to set me free...
'Cos it may be that it's over for me...
If you don't hear the things I say...today....
Nobody will change me anyway...no no way...

Nobody's gonna change my world that something too unreal...
Nobody will change the way I feel.

ALL HAIL OZZY!!

9. My favorite is "Sold our Soul..."
"Born Again" is great when I'm feeling a little rowdy (especially "Disturbing the Priest").
