I might know the identity of another DUer

I haven't actually met this Duer if he or she is who I think he or she is. From various posts though, I suspect that he or she is the parent of one of my friends from college, who I have not been in contact with.
Do you think it would be rude to PM this suspected parent, introduce myself, and ask how my friend is doing?

I thought someone on here was someone I knew also, so I PMed the DUer (turned out not to be the person I knew, but it was cool to get to know this other person a little bit better!)
