1. Alas, your local affiliate will carry the game
That they think will be of most local interest.

2. I can see why the Philly station is carrying Bucknell...
Edited on Sun Mar-20-05 05:17 PM by Reverend_Smitty
but why is Ga Tech/Louisville more local than Duke/Wisconsin on a NY station?

5. Apparently the Duke/ Ms. St game
is local here in Kansas. Although I do think we are closer to Louisville.

3. It isn't the same but
go to espn.com, go to basketball scores and get the play by play. I've done that lots of times until they start showing the game I want to see.

7. I know what you mean
I am a die heard basketball fan and I've got my rituals and superstitions. I blame the Kansas loss on the fact that my rally monkey (I'm being totally serious here) got knocked over. I've been child watching a lot this season and every game we've lost has been when I've watching kids who want to play with my rally monkey. I admit I thought about choking the living sh*t out of a kid Friday night when he grabbed my monkey and started playing with it during the game.

13. I had a boyfriend for that once
He was naturally bald and proud of it (and no, his pate wasn't blue). We met at the first "Late Night with Larry Brown" although we had been checking each other out the previous season from our respective seats. It was pretty much a basketball obsessed relationship. Anyway, we were watching a game one time and my Jayhawks were down so he told me to rub his head for luck. It worked. Not all of the time but enough for it to be a ritual for the years we were together. We started dating in October of 1985 and broke up in March of 1988. I'm so glad I stopped rubbing his head! We're still friends and joke that Larry Brown lasted slightly longer as KU head coach than we did as a couple.

10. From what I could tell, the GA Tech game was over pretty early...
It's a shame they didn't switch over to the Duke game.

Here, I was forced to watch the WI game. Oh, well.

And I have a singing Duke doll!

15. Admittedly I first thought this post was about
the "commentators" because a lot of them suck. They seem to get wrapped up in their opinions, past glories and personal biases from time to time and completely ignore the game. They are the MSM at their worst. I can't remember which moron it was who first said that KU playing a zone would hurt them and then explained why. A few minutes later the same guy was talking about what a good move KU did to go into the zone and then explained why.

I hate it when a foul has been called and they aren't really paying attention. They'll say, "that's McCant's second foul, blah, blah, blah," and then I see McCant going to the foul line to take some shot. Instead of going back and immediately acknowledging who the foul was called on they start explaining why the call went McCant's way and agreeing with each other (and from where I'm sitting it's the foulee's shirt that had been pulled out from his shorts and he bears scratches on his face). I'm wondering what's going on but the announcers (more often than not) accept the call and move on. Unless of course the call goes against their favorite. Then we'll see replays but not of the last spectacular play that would satisfy the viewer. Instead we are treated to replays of every transgression that the commentator thinks went uncalled against his favorite.

A tangent of this is when the CBS announcers fail in their duty to call the game (that's their job right?) by letting the viewers know which player just called called or for what. This is especially frustrating when it could be either Elder or Schenscher (both with two fouls at last count) that was called. Granted, they either fess up by showing a graphic or I can figure it out when Elder heads to the bench. Maybe it is just me and I'm spoiled by our conference commentators most of whom have a better grasp of what fans from both schools want to know than most national announcers.

Just one time I would love to hear an announcer (at any level) say, "that guy is the worst official I've ever seen. His calls are throwing the game into ___'s favor and he is totally ignoring intentional fouls/holding/walks/etc. by ____. And you know what? This isn't the first time he's done this." Or "That guy hates to call fouls committed against ___. Have you ever noticed that when he's officiating at a ___ game that they are called with twice as many touch fouls as any opponent? He's letting his emotions/bias control his calls."

Finally, whatever happened to the split screen? See, this game is coming down to a great ending, but I'm actually watching to see another game, you know the one I was told would be on in my area. The game that is the reason I'm sitting in my favorite chair with food and friends around me. It would be a lot better to use a split screen to show two games at once. That way, I don't miss the action in the game I want to watch and they can still show me what they think is important for me to watch.
