Anyone else seen "Robots" ??
I just got back from seeing it, in a crowded theatre of mostly Bush-supporting suburbanites. Personally, I expected to be laughing and crying like when I saw "Finding Nemo" but, instead I sat there in shock. The moved chilled me in a way that few movies do. The other adults in the theatre didn't seem to laughing either. The movie is dark- robots sent to the chop-shop by roaming street sweepers. Robots can be just snatched up and disappeared.

I think it is chillingly like Metropolis in some ways, and also makes some other major social commentary that I thought was pretty clear. The "disenfranchised" in this movie are the robots who have all kinds of character and charm, but are old and need replacement parts that they stop making for them (instead they want everyone to upgrade to some frightening new and all the same kind of robot). There is a small line in there about these robots not having insurance to get care- but the statement was already obvious (to me at least). The main character's father is growing old and can't get the parts he needs to repair himself anymore... the commentary goes on and on.

I googled the movie and it has come up on some of those "boycott liberal hollywood" pages.

I just wondered if anyone else here has seen it and wants to comment on it. It was a deep movie on a lot of levels- and I think it made the adults in my conservative theatre audience uncomfortable.
