What a boring movie.

2. By the way

it won an Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay.

It's a character study and a mood piece -- not your cup of tea, I guess.

3. Did you see it at a theater or DVD?
A few months ago on Ebert and Roeper - both commented on a strange phenomenon about this movie. They saw it in theater and gave it rave reviews. People who saw the film on big screens liked it. When it came out on DVD they were both accosted by people in video stores about how they could give this movie 2 thumbs up. It seems that the film did not translate well to the small screen. They were both at a loss as to why.

the time. I hate flying. I might have liked it less in a different environment.

7. I liked it.
I thought that Tokyo itself was one of the stars of the movie, I kept going WOW. :wow:

It was like a falling down the rabbit hole kind of thing.

9. Here's my take
For what it's worth. . .

I lived in Japan for most of the 90s. Fabulous experience. And I loved the movie. Here's why.

The first month or so was the most surreal in my life. I felt almost as if I were disconnected from my body, hovering over & watching myself go through the motions, but not really knowing what they are. These feelings were intensified by the other non-Japanese that were going through their own individual, yet similar, experiences.
Lost In Translation totally evokes that feeling in me, and discussions with those friends I'd made show that they all feel the same way about the film as I do.

I TOTALLY understand why people would find it boring, and I don't believe that you had to have been in Japan to appreciate the film. I would imagine being in any country where the language is totally different would evoke the same feelings. For me, watching that film brought me back to a place in my life where everything was always new, always different and always exciting.

But that's just me.
