JUST got in from Frisco, Colorado and I still don't get it...
What's so great about the Rocky Mtns?

JUST KIDDING!!!!

It was beautiful, and WOW, that altitude (11k)!... But I have to say, my part of Maine is just as pretty only in a different way. Funny too how I had to come back here in order to see critters and not just pampered poodles in the hotel :P. I saw mostly road kill :puke: at this time of night on my 2 hour drive from the Portland Me. airport. But I did see a -live- big cat (don't know what it was-larger then a fox, smaller then a coyote with a white tip on it's tail) about 10 miles from my home.

Sorry bout the rambling. Long day of traveling and whoever set up the Chicago O'Hare 45 minute layover at the travel agency is going to pay. :spank: I swear I RAN for about a mile to get to my gate on time. Lots O'Cubs fans piled up in front of tv's to get past too. :eyes: :-)

Hmmm....maybe I should rename this post "Fun w/icons"

1. I had a remarkable literature professor. . .
who described the difference between the beauty of the East and the grandeur of the West quite simply: In the East, you walk in Nature, while in the West you stand and look out at it.

2. the Sierra's
are the most beautiful thing on God's Green earth. Gawd, I wish I was 20 years old again and hiking up to 10,000 ft with 80 lbs on my back being drenched in sunlight and starlight, walking 30 miles across the barren stones.

4. Love to see it someday
PBS had a documentary about the Sierras just the other night. I watched it in my room. It was ok, but IMO they spent too much time on the Donner Party. We all know about that horrid tragedy (I think). I would have liked to have seen more about the Mtns.

Dumb Q... Are they higher in elevation then the Rockies?

3. I'd say that sums it up pretty well
Looking out at the Rockies from my room had me longing to get closer to them. Yet I was already there. Wish I had more time to actually get out and TRY to be a part of it.

Henry James Thoreau had some great descriptions of the east... Maine in particular.
