Bumper sticker seen today...
"Worry is for people who don't know faith."

And here I thought worry was a human emotion all of us mere mortals were subject to.

1. Not if you
"let go and let God". I hate that phrase but hear it all the time.

2. And what does that mean, anyway? I always interpret it
as "don't take any action; do nothing. Whatever happens is gawd's will."

3. My late sister was a testament to that
She had a huge sore on her breast that she ignored, believing that "God would heal it." When it broke open and extruded a lot of blood, she had to go to the hospital by ambulance. Turned out she had Stage III-B breast cancer and died a couple of years later. I'm angry at her husband, who noticed the sore, but didn't do anything about it by making her see the doctor.

5. That is it.
You have no need to worry or even think. Pray to God and He will take care of everything. If you do not like what happens it is God's will and you may never know why but it must be for a better reason. To me it is one of the scariest parts of the fundamentalist teachings, it makes their flock so easy to lead.

6. different take: I kind of like that one and here's why:
chronic worriers absolutely do sweat the small stuff (mostly stuff over which they have no control) and therefore make themselves crazy

true persons of faith know shit happens, know that they get the strength to endure from God and worry less as a result. Far less anxiety.

Person #1 was my father who ultimately committed suicide due to his anxiety and depression. He was faithful to his church and a wonderfully moral man but didn't believe in himself enough and in the ability of his faith to see him through rough times

Person #2 was my mother: who survived his suicide because she felt she always had God with her. Who survived and overcame losing her entire home and everything that meant anything to her (other than her kids) in a fire and told her minister "Well I won't have to clean out the attic"
who inspired her three daughters to pray quietly for strength and guidance, make wise choices and know that God is always with you, even if it doesn't feel like it. Oh yeah and to stay close to one another, which we have

9. I am a "person of faith", but
I am just as prone to worry as any other human. I can recognize that shit happens, but I'm not immune to worry even though I believe in God.

To me the bumper sticker said that if you worry, you don't have a good enough faith. I found it a bit insulting.

7. Let go and let God means:
You can't control the universe. Let it be.

8. If you're not worried....
You obviously don't understand the problem.

That's my usual response to the blissfully clueless
