Good news for you "non geeks" is that it's a Live CD, so you could run it on a Windows PC without changing the existing software - just boot from the CD.
Alternatively, you should be able to install the contained LINUX operating system directly onto the hard drive, if you wanted to dedicate a PC just for use as a studio, if you wanted to do so.
I'm not a musician, so I'm not familiar with most of the apps listed. Audacity is like Cool Edit Pro "Lite" and K3B is the best CD burner available for Linux (Yes there finally IS a Nero for Linux, but it SUCKS) And of course, XMMS is a LINUX media player very similar to WinAmp.
The price of the CD is great, compared to an equivalent setup on a Windows or MAC, but the truth is that most, if not all, of the LINUX apps listed are either included in decent distributions or available for download from the software repositories accessible by distros such as Debian, Fedora, or SUSE. Obviously, your comfort level with Linux comes into play there, but there would probably be some configuration neccessary even with the Live CD.
