Yeah, it's a lot, but since I'm not in the US it must be shipped all the way from there.

With a beautiful 20 inch widescreen monitor :D

Yes, I know... Dell donates a lot of money to the GOP. But it is still the best option to buy computers here...

15. I wanted the new 24 inch widescreen, but it was much too expensive...
So I got the 20 inch, that is probably good enough. :)

7. I love PC users
Edited on Wed Mar-16-05 06:31 PM by noahmijo
It's because of them that technicians like me have jobs because so many people cling to the horribly designed Windows operating system with loads of security flaws and the stability of an elephant on ice. :)

A little free advice: Get Spysweeper, NAV 2005 (Or McAfee 05 although it is not as user friendly) and a good firewall/router if you have high speed.

That's the MINIMUM amount of protection you will need as a PC user. Looks like a nice gaming machine though have fun!

24. Just kidding, Mac users are just supposed to be that way.
Seriously, enjoy your new computer. My son recently purchased a Dell and I give him hell too. One consideration about Mac is the software that is included and the ease of use with way less lockups and security problems. I have a Gateway laptop for work and often feel they call it windows because sometimes I would like to throw it out one.

10. Congrats!!!!
I'm looking for a new laptop right now.

Anyone have any suggestions?

I need reliable, midprice, portable, but not mini, & geared to CDs, DVDs, surfing, little office work. Also portable & ability to go wireless.

17. Despite the problem I noted below with my VAIO desktop...
...I quite like my Sony VAIO laptop. It's very thin and light, plus has built-in wireless, DVD, and the rest.

16. I just ordered a new 'puter, too -- from Gateway
My Sony VAIO desktop is dying slowly... No spyware or anything. Judging from the system's behavior over the last few weeks, it feels like one of those escalating hardware failures.

Anyway, here's the system I ordered:
Gateway 9310X
Microsoft® Windows® XP Professional Edition with Service Pack 2
Intel® Pentium® 4 Processor 650 (3.40GHz)
2GB (2048MB) PC3200 400MHz DDR2 SDRAM Dual Channel (4-512MB modules)
400GB 7200RPM Serial ATA Hard Drive w/ 8MB Cache
16x Double-Layer Multi-Format DVD±/R±RW/CD-R/RW recorder and 16x DVD-ROM drive
8-in-1 media card reader and floppy drive
nVidia 6600G PCI-E Video Card with 128MB Memory
Integrated Intel® 7.1 High Definition audio
Gateway 7-Bay Tower Case
Gateway Premium Wireless Keyboard & Mouse
56K PCI data/fax modem 1
Integrated 10/100/1000 (Gigabit) Ethernet

Shipping was free. Total cost, including CA taxes, was $1933.17

(I refuse to buy from Dell, because of their political donations.)

20. Very nice system there yourself.
My advantage is that I didn't need a monitor, as I already own a matched pair of Planar 20" normal-aspect LCD displays. (I'm a fiend for lots of screen real-estate, so I have them hooked into both the DVI and VGA ports.)

Anyway, that saved me tons of money.

Good luck with yours. I just got word from Gateway earlier today that my order is already over at the factory, being built.

cheers!

and that just wasn't enough, I really needed the space. Plus, DVDs will look great :)

They said it should be here in 10 days, hopefully they'll keep their word.

I'm paying $2150 for all of this, so I'm happy :)
