Did anyone else like "The House of Sand and Fog"?
I thought it had a goood plot, cast, and basically ALL of the characters had depth. No one was a "goody-two-shoes" but on the other hand no one was flawless either. Some made more mistakes then others; (but I won't get into that for those of you who have not seen the the movie) It was so refresshing to see a movie that didn't have a definative "good guy" or "bad guy".

The movie has been out on DVD and VCR for awhile now, but if you haven't seen it, I think you won't be disappointed.

One sidenote: My SO said he liked the movie too, but his enthusiasm didn't appear to be as strong as mine. HOWEVER, I don't think this is by any means a "chick flick".

1. Very good movie....
Exactly as you described. No good or bad guys. Just the shades of grey that afflict all humans. Each one having good intentions but always falling short.

It had a fucked-up ending that I really wasnt expecting but overall the story and acting were superb.
IMO, Kingsley should have won the Oscar for his role as the hard-boiled Iranian Colonel,
And Jennifer Connelly is beautiful as well as being a great actress.

12. As much as I love ole Ben, I thought the wife was truly robbed
Shoreh Agdashalah (??, sp?, I think????) was AMAZING in that movie.

I even started watching "24" this season as I was so moved by her performance.

15. Just looked that up
Not a one.

I thought that it got best adapted screenplay, but it wasn't even nominated.

In hindsight, I think Adaptation won for that that year...

9. I loved it
It found it to be very Shakespearian. I think this relates to the realness and the flawed characters as you mention.

11. Most depressing movie EVER!!!
But as you say, very well done and all in all a great film. OTOH, ANYTHING with Jennifer Connelley is bound to be good.

19. I think you're right about that
Amazingly depressing. But yes, it was a well done flick. I don't know that I'd want to watch it again though.

18. Great cast, wonderful acting
It was depressing, yet thought-provoking. My husband also loved it. It kept us talking about it for days afterward.

21. I read the book, - it was excellent
I haven't seen the movie, but if it follows the plot, I wouldn't call it a chick flick either.
