Automatic Living....
Automatic living … a life of comfort and achievement, accumulating possessions, honors, and the routine eating, mating, and financial habits of prosperous people, the soul sinking under folds of flesh, the rituals of social position; that was what the author of the Psalms meant when he wrote :‘Their heart is gross like fat.’ This was the contented
mind that had no dealings with death and whose sole concern was to remain contented. … It was the crushed spirit that knocked in vain, year after year, tapping on inanimate objects, pleading for the locked door to be reopened.
—Amos Oz, from Fima

1. MATTHEW GOOD
MATTHEW GOOD BAND LYRICS

"Everything Is Automatic"

Miss my head, miss my heart, miss my lungs
Be what you want to be
Watch what you want to see
Killed for fun
Down a hole, up a rope
Down some pills, up some hope
This karma machine only takes quarters
New age soldier, new age soldier

Everybody's all right
Everything is automatic
And everybody's all right
Everything is skin deep

Everybody's all right
And everything is automatic
Everybody's all right
And everything is skin deep, me

Say hey, say hey, say how ya doing
Say hey, say hey, say how ya doing

I miss my lazy boy
I miss my TV
I miss myself
Do you miss your lazy boy
Do you miss your TV
Do you miss yourself

Everybody's all right
Everything is automatic
Everybody's all right
Everything is skin deep

Everybody's all right
Everything is automatic
Everybody's' all right
Everything is skin deep, me

It's always what I wanted
It's always what I wanted
It's always what I

Killed for fun
It's fucking funny don't you think
One day you'll decompose
And you wake up and those
Those birds are singing
Those birds are singing

It's always what I wanted
It's always what I wanted
It's always what I
It's always what I

Everything is skin deep

2. Well put
Sometimes we all find ourselves on auto-pilot. I know I have at various times in my life. It's not a good way to be.

3. please Jesus...tell me what I need to do to get into Heaven.
I am a sinner..I have so much to confess..I have been reading too much Jean Baudrillard and am afraid I am not a good little American!

"Thus perhaps at stake has always been the murderous capacity of images, murderers of the real, murderers of their own model, as the Byzantine icons could murder the divine identity. To this murderous capacity is opposed the dialectical capacity of representations as a visible and intelligible mediation of the Real. All of Western faith and good faith was engaged in this wager on representation: That a sign could refer to the depth of meaning, that a sign could exchange for meaning, and that something could guarantee this exchange---God, of course. But what if God himself can be simulated, that is to say, reduced to the signs which attest his existence? Then the whole system becomes weightless, it is no longer anything but a gigantic simulacrum---not unreal, but a simulacrum, never again exchanging for what is real, but exchanging in itself, in an uninterrupted circuit without reference or circumference"
-J Baudrillard

I highly recommend Baudrillard for those who are ill at ease with modernity...
