My mother keeps buying me stuff from Walmart.
She knows why I refuse to spend money there. She is VERY tight and still shops there and now she is bringing me things. Twice this week she has shown up,once at work and once at my house, with something she has picked up for me. I will donate it all the next time I get a bunch of stuff together but still it is really annoying me.

Let her have this one.

2. You can't let politics completely run your life.
It's your mom. Leave her alone. She's just trying to be nice.

She never buys me anything I would actually want. She buys me really ugly pants and shirts that she paid $2 for. She has known me for 39 years. She knows what I will and won't wear. Why can't she go to Target? Their clothes are so much better.

5. She is so CHEAP!!!!
That is all she thinks about. If I get something at Target she has to tell me that it is cheaper at the other place. I tell her 'Yeah a whole 50 cents cheaper' she gets all huffy and talks about how much money I spend.

6. from someone who can squeeze George until he cries, tell her
saving money while destroying lives contradicts the ethics she raised you to have. Nah, don't say that. But it's true, yes?

7. My mom buys all sorts of weird stuff
and since she only pops in about once a month or so, I don't worry about keeping any of it around. I tried for years to gently tell her to stop buying me more stuff (simplicity is good) but she wouldn't/won't stop.

So I always have a box in the basement to go to the Goodwill.

10. Suggest to her
that if she feels you really need something, and you agree, that you will kick in the few extra cents between the cost at Walmart vs the cost at Target, given she buys it at Target, or some other store.

13. I think it's a generational thing
My mom is 75 and she goes to WalMart every other day. I think that, being a child of the Depression, she loves just going in there and seeing that huge building filled with all that "stuff".

I, on the other hand, grew up in the sixties and seventies when there was lots of "stuff". I've had enough "stuff". I don't enjoy shopping and I start to feel suffocated in stores full of things.

I haven't spent any money in WalMart in over two years. I try to explain to my mom that there's very little there I need, so I see no point in going in and being tempted to spend money.

But she loves it. Like the OP's mom, she'll buy stuff she has no need for because "it's so cheap." It's her money and her life. I've quit saying anything about it, but I draw the line at going in there with her.
