I can't believe what I did today. My parents dropped by unannounced and I didn't let them in. I offered to go out for coffee with them, but they declined.

*bangs head on wall*

4. We had a chat in the lobby
They wanted to help/interfer depending on your point of view. There was no yelling (I never yell) I was just intractable.

7. Well good for standing up for yourself!
The only reason I wrote about the hiding was because of a similar incident in my youth when I let the 'rents into a new place my sister and I had moved into. We knew they were coming so hid some -ahem-plants in the hamper. And do you know my mom went right to that hamper and opened it, busting us?
Anyway, I'm sure you'll all make up once the emotions have leveled out. Sometimes, that's what families are for. :)

3. Well, I don't think you'll have to worry...
about them popping in unannounced any time soon. Good luck.

5. Did your grandparents ever drop by unannounced
when you were a kid?

My parents always taught me that it was rude to do so, and expect to be invited in. If it was an emergency, of course, it would be a different story.

8. My mother has a key to my house.
She feeds my cats when I go out of town but she abuses my hospitality. She will just unlock the door and walk in. One day I freaked and told her she really should knock if I am home. So know she knocks AS SHE IS OPENING THE DOOR!!

Saturday morning I was still in bed and heard a noise then I heard her announcing herself. She comes in my room and makes a snarky comment about me still being in bed. It as 9:30 am for pete's sake. I had been up late night before and have been working 12 hours a day since it is tax season. And I was about to get up and go work 5 hours on a Saturday. She does not work and just thinks I am goofing off when I am in bed because I AM TIRED...

9. It's none of her business why you're in bed
Even if you were "goofing off", you should be able to do it without the effing criticism!

10. That's what I said...
A year or so ago, before I worked so much, I used to get up very early, even on my days off. Now I like staying in bed. I guess she just can't get used to the new me.

11. Put a chain on your door, and use it when you're home
That'll stop Mom from walking in when you don't want her to.

Hey, Mom...just trying to be "Safe"!:wow:

12. Good for you, dear!
Stand your ground. You're an adult now, and deserve to be treated with consideration and respect.
