My 11-yr-old came home in an emotional state
He no longer wishes to go to school (can't we transfer him to another district?)

He wants to change his hair color, get colored contacts and go underground. (As if he would make it 48 hours without cable television, his playstation and the telephone!)

As I type, he is in his room cuddled into the corner of his bed, with the blanket over his entire body. Every so often, he draws up the memory of what happened today at school and I hear the sobs start all over again.

What terrible thing happened at school? My son is a 5th grader. Today, by the lockers, in front of all of some girls friends, he handed a flower and professed his love to a 7th grader.

I know... I'm a horrible father. I shouldn't find it funny.

4. Hey...tell your son he has the courage of ten men!
It's not easy for a boy that age to get the guts to ask out an older lady!

He should be proud of himself, if anything!

5. Ohhh...so he likes the OLDER ladies, does he?
That's a cute story. As traumatic as it no doubt is, he will get over it. It'll make great story-fodder for him as he gets older.

10. Poor kid. I have an entry in my 6th grade diary that says
"I cut my bangs. I have ruined my life." It is all so dramatic and larger than life at that age and they are not old enough to have any perspective on the big picture. If he got rebuffed just tell him that living well is the best revenge. Act happy and like he doesn't care and soon they won't either.

And that earlier poster is right, he has the balls of ten full-grown men! You need to celebrate this!

He always liked "older women".. We made him say NO.

He's 27, and is still friends with that girl. (she's married and a Mom, but they are still friends)JUST friends..She lives in another state, but alway calls to chat when she visits her dad.

14. Ach, the poor wee thing. Dad, you need to take the kid out for
any sort of "manly" activity -- something that you normally may not let him do, or think he's too young for -- and do it together. Tell him he was braver than hell and you are proud that he is your son.

15. your son must have a beautifully sensitive soul ... don't let anyone
crush it... praise him for his courage, for his sensitivity, and in your own soul treasure his innocence. the years fly away really fast!
