I need a complete list of Irish bands!
I'm sitting in for a friend who has a college radio show this Thursday. Since it's St. Patty's day, I'd like to play as much Irish music as I can, and I'll be grateful for your input.

Don't worry about listing U2, The Cranberries or Van Morrison. I need to go beyond! Far beyond!

I thank you.

37. You're right - I should play their theme song.
I used to watch the first five minutes of their show every week.

5. Well there's Silly Sisters, Silly Wizard, and Shooglenifty.
The later is a fusion of Celtic and Contemporary Rock.

They are much more interesting to listen to than the Clancey Brothers and their bloody overplayed "Irish Rover."

However (and I should have said this off the top) I need more of a rock and less of a celtic emphasis. Still, many good suggestions so far! Thanks.

Dropkick Murphys are easily my favorite band. Great American rock with some amazing Irish covers. (Wild Rover, Rocky Road To Dublin). For those of you who don't know about them, I think you should check 'em out. I really think they should have played the convention in Boston. They have a lot of songs about the working class and labor unions. It's nothing but the Murphys for me this St. Paddy's day.

Best Celtic band ever, in my not so humble opinion. The real stuff, no synthesizers, even occasionally singing in Gaelic. I think they kick De Danann's and Altan's ass. (Although check them out too.)

You do know that Cherish the Ladies and Dropkick Murphys are American, right? As long as you know that, you might also want to play Black 47.

41. It's your basic alterno-rock show, with room for almost anything.
Too much Celtic would cause complaints, though, I think. So I'll have to mix it up.

Thanks all, again.

But Lorenna McKennitt and Ashley McIsaac are the next best thing. "Mummer's Dance" by McKennitt is fantastic.
I still like the soundtrack from Riverdance also.
