Acorn.org...What do you know...
What do you like? Can you tell me anything about this organization? I may be working for them, and I'd like to know what I'm getting myself into exactly. They sounds great on paper, and from what I've heard from the Western US Director. I just want to hear from you guys. Thanks.

1. Their heyday was in the 70's and early 80's
While they have had some good successes against Wal-Mart, they are very unorganized. I have no idea what your background and credentials are, but they burned someone I know fairly bad. If you are dependent on this living, I'd say look for another job. If it's just some extra spending cash..go for it as you will get out amongst people discussing political issues which is good for sharpening your skills.

2. Thanks...
What state are you in? The research I've seen so far says that the Western part of the country, where I'd be, looks like those problems have been fixed, and the lady who is the director for the western part of the country from texas and Oklahoma West, seems to be very with it.
But thanks for the info. It's good to see both sides. Also, I hope to make this a stepping stone and a networking thing.

3. I'm in California and they do seem more organized here
the bad experiences a friend had were on the east coast. For a stepping stone and networking, I would think it would be good...best of luck to you. They do advocate on many worthy labor causes.

5. i guess it depends on where you live
i knew of the ones in the Washington D.C. area, which were very active, and were pretty good at mobilizing residents

6. I worked for acorn in 1991
It didn't take long to figure out the biggest thing about them was fund raising, mostly from people who couldn't afford to part with what little money they had.
I worked from the kcmo office and wish now I'd never answered the ad, for four weeks work I was paid exctly 60.00, luckily at the time I had a place to live and a small income to depend on.
They sell dreams to poor gullible people, and don't deliver on the promise, if I were you I'd run as far and dast from acorn as I could.
