Listening to Queen right now, when the irony
of a gay, singing what has become the macho anthem of "We, are the Champions" hit me....as all these macho men in the stadiums stomp out We, will, we will, rock you....does it not occure to them who wrote and sang those words? But I guess he would have only been a threat to them if he tried to get married?

1. rob halford, the singer for judas priest comes to mind as well.
but i know what you mean, it is quite funny to think that many homophobic "tuff straight guy" types embrace these musicians thinkning that they are "tuff straight guys" like themselves.

irony indeed.

3. I'm straight and I've always loved that song
It wasn't until a few years ago that a gay friend of mine explained that it was a gay anthem. All that time, I thought it had to do with football.
Nevertheless, I still love the song and I still equate it to football.
And yes, the irony is great.

4. Spin Magazine had a list last year of the best frontmen in rock ...
Freddie Mercury was I beleive #6. Reason: The ability to stand on stage in a stadium, fist clenched, whipping the crowd in a Neuremburg-rally like frenzy ... while singing in falsetto.

5. Pat Buchanan used either
We Are the Champions or We Will Rock You in one of his campaigns.

Doubly deliciously ironic.
