Has anyone EVER disproved the "Buffalo Theory"?
One night at Cheers, Cliff Clavin explained the "Buffalo Theory" to
his buddy, Norm. "Well ya see, Norm, it's like this. A herd of
buffalo can only move as fast as the slowest buffalo. And when the
herd is hunted, it is the slowest and weakest ones at the back that
are killed first. This natural selection is good for the herd as a
whole, because the general speed and health of the whole group keeps
improving by the regular killing of the weakest members. In much the same way, the human brain can only operate as fast as the slowest brain cells. Excessive intake of alcohol, as we know, kill brain cells. But naturally, it attacks the slowest and weakest brain cells first. In this way, regular consumption of beer eliminates the weaker brain cells, making the brain a faster and more efficient machine!

That's why you always feel smarter after a few beers.

6. U.P. gets credit for perhaps the best come back of 2005
and here it is only March.

Certainly the best use of Sarte I have seen since the Jean Paul cookbook.

2. ok I know you're kidding but actually there's some truth to it
Very light drinking of alcohol may have some protective effect against Alzheimer's.

Now drink like a maniac and you could end up like the Chimperor but a wine or beer after work probably is good for the brain.

The conservation movement is a breeding ground of communists
and other subversives. We intend to clean them out,
even if it means rounding up every birdwatcher in the country.

7. What I don't understand is...
Why would a hunter want to kill off the slowest/weakest if the herd can only go as fast as the slowest/weakest? Wouldn't that make the herd harder to catch? I would think they'd want to keep the slowest/weakest ones there to keep the entire heard slow to make them easier to catch.

Although, perhaps I can answer my own question by saying that it does make sense to weed out the weakest to maintain a healthy herd much in the same way a smart and responsible lumberjack always leaves the best trees to maintain a healthy forest.

Don't mind me, I'm just carrying on a conversation with myself here... (and I haven't even had any beer yet)

13. Except
The reason this improves the speed and health of the herd is because only the faster and healthier members are alive long enough to breed and produce more fast, healthy buffalo. Your brain cells are not reproducing.

And for the poster who wondered why a hunter would choose the slower animals, it is not only humans who hunt. Animals who hunt do so because they need to eat not for sport. They kill what requires the least effort - ergo the slower animals.

Nature keeps a balance in place - humans fuck it up.
