When you're going all out & eating healthy isn't on your mind, what's your pick for the best deep-fried food?

5. Chips
By which I mean real English chips. They are like french fries but are thick enough that you actually know that they are made of potato.

They are best when double fried, once at a low temperature to cook the potato, then for a shorter period at a higher temp to turn them brown.

20. They can be eaten with just about any sauce imaginable
Mayonnaise is quite popular in southern England, along with Belgium and Holland.

The north of England infamously goes for gravy (which has to be really thick and gloopy - it actually tastes gorgeous).

At university one canteen would serve chips with cheese (a tad bizzare, never liked it myself).

6. Breaded mushrooms - hard to find in places
They were my sustenance during college. My room mate's mom worked at a Hoagie Shop and would give us a big box of frozen breaded mushrooms every once and a while.

now I wanna know! Would it be worth my time to beg, or is this one of those closely guarded secret-type things?

I put just salt, peppers, and a little Lowry's seasoned salt in mine. Still tastes good, though. :)

39. I have a fried chicken I make that is the best
My fries are pretty good too.

When I eat out, I don't eat fried, because stupid Andrew Weil spoiled it for me with his tales of how often restaurants change their oil. (They don't.)

even if it means rounding up every birdwatcher in the country.

Your name reminds me ... At a local restaurant, I recently ordered fried alfredo bites - basically just lumps of fettucini alfredo pasta, deep fried & served w/ marinara sauce. Different, but good.

45. They are batter fried, and are a good warm up
for the Hot Brown, an open faced turkey and ham sandwich covered in mornay sauce, tomatoes, cheese and bacon. It is then put in a broiler to melt the cheese.

That fried pasta dish sounds dangerous.

I love fried polenta too.
