What Is Your Soul Food? And What Music Would You Listen To While Eating It
Edited on Mon Mar-14-05 05:30 PM by AutumnMist
Just a question out of the blue. I have read some threads on drink and some threads on food. So if you had a perfect evening of food and drink? What would it be? Some latte and a hot bowl of soup to fend of the cold? Food so hot you have to wear a tank top and drink a frosty beer at the seaside? I don't care.....just enlighten me. Food, drink and romantic/crazy nights go together. Share them with me. :)I am always amazed at the crazy and elegant ways we share meals and our time. Recipes would be most appreciated as well. Our weather is going to get warmer (fingers crossed) soon and I want to have a eat until you bust, and dance until your ass hurts party. All input will be considered. :yourock:

7. Steak on the grill
corn on the cob, potato salad and for dessert, some Whiteys ice cream. A beer or two doesn't hurt either. Then we may settle down with some Little Feat. OK I know it doesn't seem overly romantic and its definitely summer activity, but it gets me and Bluzwoman going. See, we met at a Little Feat concert and the first time I had her over, it was steak on the grill, etc. And if a person lives in the Quad-Cities area and doesn't like Whiteys, there's something wrong with them anyway. No special recipe, but McCormick makes a pretty good steak rub, Montreal steak rub. It was reccomended to me by my brother in law, who used to work at a fancy restaurant and knows his stuff about food. Good luck with your party and have fun!

10. For my white suburban upbringing
Soul food would mean fried bologna sandwiches and potato chips.

13. My Perfect Night
would be fireflies in the bushes, Billie Holiday in the stereo. "I Will Be Seeing You" gives me chills when she sings it. Random lights strung across our porch, and some great steaks on the grill. Wonderful friends over to enjoy it, with some great ale or frosty mugs of their choice to celebrate.

21. Great minds think alike
Nothing like going to a good juerga and watching the gitanos play.

Unfortunately, in MN, the closest we come is an overpriced tapas bar with a guitarist and one dancer-- neither of whom are gitanos, although the guitarist did study in Spain. :)

30. Oh, man, where to start
"Traditional" Flamenco is typically performed by a singer (or cantaor) accompanied by one or more guitarists, and may include dancers or other instruments, like the cajón (a box drummed with the hands). The music is very popular with gypsy communities in Spain and southern France, particularly in the Spanish district of Andalusia.

Flamenco is hard to describe, but chances are you've heard it before. Most likely, you've heard a variant called "Nuevo Flamenco" or "Rumba Flamenco", by the likes of The Gipsy Kings. It's a very passionate, emotional and seductive music that has been called the "blues" of Spain.

You can find a good overview of Flamenco at http://www.flamenco-world.com.

Some popular Flamenco artists include Paco De Lucia, Carlos Montoya, Sabicas, Camarón de la Isla, Tomatito and Manitas de Plata.

Hope this makes sense. :dunce:
