11. Since I can't reply to those threads directly any more...
You are absolutely right, but you have to think it's part of the natural marriage of the extremely religious folks to the right wing. The very definition of progress (root of "progressive") is to redefine reality in terms previously unknown. When you see things in terms of only black and white, it's very difficult NOT to be reactionary (aka conservative). Conveniently enough, religion seeks to make very complex moral issues very black and white. It always has, and quite frankly, is the entire point of organized religion.

If you do "X", you are evil. For many, that's a valid political ideology.

Toss in "because God says so", and you now you have a valid religion too.

There are no available shades of grey, and thus, no room for new philosophies or revelations. Off the top of my head, I can't think of any leftist regimes that are religion based (the phrase "godless commie" ring any bells?), and meanwhile, it seems that there are many radical right regimes that are entirely based on religion (although there certainly are secular right regimes as well).

4. Just because they oppose the radical right-wing Israeli government...
does not necessarily make them the opposite of the political spectrum.

8. They also oppose left-wing Israeli governments
and left-wing Muslims. Philosophically, they're much closer to the average Bush voter.

5. I think Burqas are *very* left-wing.
Oh, and chopping off people's hands for petty shoplifting? Us goddamn hippies are way big into that. Oh and hey, let's take a break from union-agitating to force some infidels to worship Allah under pain of death! Peeeeeace, maaaaaaan.

7. oh yeah
I jerk off to pictures of Osama bin Laden, Saddam Hussein and Zarqawi every night. To fanatical neocons like Horowitz, ANYTHING that's not of their ilk is "left."

Horowitz used to be a radical leftist in the '60s. My understanding is that he was a "leftist" as in the International ANSWER variety, and was never really a mainline Dean/Wellstone-style Democrat but just went straight from being a frothing Marxist to a frothing neocon. (You may correct me if I'm mistaken.) If I'm right, it sounds like he's changed his ideology but not his underlying mindset, and in the meantime he seems to project onto the entire "left" what he was like as a radical leftist.

Neocons and Repukes are our counterpart to the Muslim world's fanatical Islamists -- rigid, ideological, violent and warmongering. They have exactly the same personalities and temperament as the Islamists who perpetrate suicide bombings against Israeli and Iraqi civilians. Neocons aren't "terrorists" only because they can terrorize with warplanes instead of car bombs and suicide bombers.

I've seen RW propagandists try to tie every reprehensible movement to the left, including the Nazis and the KKK.

15. Good point. Horowitz's never been mainstream.
He was a radical left-winger in his youth, and instead of leveling off in the mainstream, he just went all the way to the radical right-wing extreme.
